𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 I Port of Call 2 Initiates Regional Dialogue on Future-Ready Institutions

With the theme “Forging Future-Ready Institutions: Integrating Technology, Sustainability, and Resilience for Excellence,” the event brought together educators, administrators, researchers, and development practitioners from across Southeast Asia for a virtual discussion held on May 20, 2026.

The activity is part of Voices of ASEAN, a flagship initiative spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) and the International Relations Officers Network XI (IRON XI), in collaboration with Davao del Norte State College, Davao Oriental State University, and Lyceum of the Philippines - Davao.

Voices of ASEAN is a year-long hybrid knowledge platform designed to deepen ASEAN literacy and foster international collaboration. The initiative embarks on a metaphorical journey aboard the balangay, making stops at various “Ports of Call” to explore the pillars of Prosperity, Peace, and People Empowerment.

𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | The International Relations Officers Network (IRON XI), through the Assumption College of Davao, Ateneo de Davao University and SAN PEDRO COLLEGE, invites you to an International Learning Session (ILS) on “Transforming Masculinities: Understanding the Role and Challenges of Men’s Engagement in Gender Justice” on 11 June 2026, Thursday, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM (GMT+8 PHST), via Zoom video conference.

This learning session forms part of Voices of ASEAN: Bridging Horizons, Navigating Shared Future, a year-long flagship initiative of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) and IRON XI.

The session will focus on SDG 5: Gender Equality and explore the role of men in advancing gender justice. It will discuss the realities of gender-based violence, the barriers that limit men’s participation in gender justice advocacy, and the conditions that can encourage meaningful and transformative engagement.

The session will also invite participants to reflect on how universities and communities can work together toward a culture rooted in respect, accountability, and shared responsibility.

Our lead discussant is Dr. Ian Clark R. Parcon, Associate Professor of the Philosophy Department of Ateneo de Davao University. The ILS will also be enriched by reactors and co-discussants from ASEAN partner institutions in Brunei and Malaysia, who will share perspectives shaped by their own social, cultural, and institutional contexts.

Certificates will be provided to participants who complete the registration and evaluation.

This session is one of the virtual “Ports of Call” under Phase 1 of Voices of ASEAN. Participants are encouraged to keep and collect their certificates from each virtual session, as these will be recognized during the culminating activity on 28 August 2026 in celebration of ASEAN Month.

The Consul General of Malaysia in Davao City, Honorable Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh, along with administrators from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)—Prof. Dr. Che Wan Kamarul Hisham Che Wan Ahmad and Prof. Dr. Mohd Saiful Nizam Suhaimi—recently visited the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) on 12 May 2026.

The delegation introduced UiTM to CHED RO XI to explore potential collaborations in faculty and staff development, capacity-building initiatives, and international training programs.

UiTM is a long-standing partner of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC).

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) and the International Relations Officers Network XI (IRON XI) in Taiwan from May 5-9, 2026 for the 6th Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU) Annual Conference and the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), and benchmarking visits at partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

CHED RO XI's Internationalization Focal Person, Dr. Evelyn S. Ecle, joined the delegation of the following Davao Region HEIs' leaders:

The WURI conference brought together more than 200 higher education leaders and representatives from over 30 countries. The prestigious international gathering highlighted innovation, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and global collaboration in higher education.

Meanwhile, the Learning and Partnership visits at National Chi Nan University and Providence University provided an opportunity for IRON XI to explore best practices in campus internationalization and academic innovation.

This initiative is part of the Commission's thrust under the A.C.H.I.E.V.E. Agenda, specifically focusing on Inclusive and Impact-Driven Internationalization.
