On August 6 2026, the โ€œๆบ็ฆ็ญ‘ๆขฆโ€ Practice Team from Huaqiao University visited Philippine Academy of Sakya Davao Inc. to introduce Chinaโ€™s โ€œFuโ€ culture, which represents blessings and good luck. The team gave engaging talks about the history and cultural meaning of the โ€œFuโ€ character, opening local studentsโ€™ eyes to Chinese blessingโ€‘themed traditions.

A highlight of the program was a handsโ€‘on Chinese calligraphy session. Guided by the team, students practiced writing the character โ€œ๐…๐ฎโ€ with brush pens. Through feeling each stroke, participants gained direct experience of traditional Chinese art, deepening their interest in crossโ€‘cultural heritage.

We began our journey by exploring the rich history of โ„™๐•™๐•š๐•๐•š๐•ก๐•ก๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•– โ„๐• ๐•œ๐•œ๐•š๐•–๐•Ÿ, and especially how it has taken on its own special flavor right here in Davao.

They discussed how ๐ฟ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘ˆ๐‘’ differs from other forms of ๐ป๐‘œ๐‘˜๐‘˜๐‘–๐‘’๐‘› โ€” shaped by their local culture, daily conversations, and the way their community has lived and worked in Mindanao for decades. We also heard firsthand accounts from long-time residents, sharing how this language has served as a bridge between generations, and between Chinese roots and Filipino identity.

It was inspiring to see so many people โ€” students, teachers, and community leaders โ€” gathered with one heart: to understand, preserve, and share this precious heritage. Every question asked, every phrase practiced, and every story shared today reminded us that keeping their language alive is how we keep their identity strong.

This evening, the Chinese Club had the honor of experiencing "Detective Chinatown 1900"โ€”a film that artfully intertwines historical grandeur with cultural nuance and narrative brilliance. Set in the early 20th century, the movie transported our members to an era of mystery and innovation, showcasing the depth of Chinese storytelling through its compelling plot and striking visuals.

We sincerely thank all attendees for joining us in this celebration of cinematic artistry and cultural heritage. Events like these not only deepen our understanding of history but also strengthen our shared appreciation for the unifying power of film.
