𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟑 𝐑𝐞𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟒𝟑 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐁𝐄𝐒

From school gardens where young learners once planted vegetables to today’s multi-storey campus, Sixto Babao Elementary School has changed through the years—but the memories and friendships formed here remain.

After 43 years, members of Batch 1983 reunited on August 1, 2026, at Choijien Place, Laverna, Mamay Road, under the theme “Reconnect. Reminisce. Relax.” The gathering featured Kumustahan and Sharing, dinner and fellowship, a “Remember When?” trivia game, and a “Walk Down Memory Lane” featuring old photographs, report cards, and school projects.

The reunion celebrated batch members who have grown in different and meaningful ways—as professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders, responsible heads of families, dedicated workers, and caring members of society. Their diverse journeys reflect how success takes many forms, with each continuing to make a difference in their families and communities.

Led by Mrs. Narmela P. Espedido, Public Schools District Supervisor and overall in-charge, the reunion was a meaningful opportunity not only to reconnect but also to give back to their alma mater. Dr. Michelle M. Palmera, OIC-PSDS of Tibungco District, joined Principal Arbie Dela Torre in welcoming the alumni.

As part of the celebration, Batch 1983 pledged continued support for Sixto Babao Elementary School and committed to helping advance its mission of producing educated and disciplined learners. The commitment was symbolically affirmed as the alumni joined in chanting the school mantra: “Batang Sixto: Magaling, Disiplinado!”

Principal Dela Torre expressed his gratitude for the batch’s support and encouraged them to remain role models and sources of inspiration to today’s learners. Special appreciation was also extended to Engr. Delia Ganir for generously providing the venue, food, and batch shirts.

Forty-three years may have changed the school and its learners, but the bond between Batch 1983 and Sixto Babao Elementary School remains strong—now transformed into a shared commitment to give back, uphold the school’s mission, and help shape the next generation of Batang Sixto.

15 Young Pens Rise, Take on Campus Journalism Challenge

Fifteen young journalists from Sixto Babao Elementary School put their writing and journalism skills to the test during the Campus Journalism Academy for Students held on August 8, 2026, at Crossing Bayabas National High School.

The student journalists joined various journalism events as part of their preparation for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026. They were accompanied by their coaches and school principal during the activity.

The young journalists participated in different events, including News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Column Writing, Sports Writing, Sci-Tech Writing, Copyreading, Editorial Cartooning, and Photojournalism in both English and Filipino.

Through the training, the participants had opportunities to hone their skills, learn from experienced experts, and understand the importance of accuracy, creativity, and responsible journalism.

Aside from gaining valuable experience, three student journalists earned recognition for their outstanding outputs during the activity. Kristle Ivan Maturan won third place in Editorial Cartooning–Filipino, while Cedrey Euhan Canano-o bagged eighth place in Copyreading–English. Meanwhile, Cheljane Boque clinched tenth place in Sci-Tech Writing–English. Their achievements boosted their confidence and motivated them to further develop their journalism skills.

The activity also provided the young journalists with an opportunity to build confidence and prepare for the competition ahead.
With the guidance of their coaches and the support of their school principal, the 15 student journalists of Sixto Babao Elementary School are now gearing up for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference.

Their pens are ready. Their stories are waiting to be told. And their voices are ready to be heard.

From Classroom Teacher to District Leader: Dr. Josephine C. Bargayo Returns to Inspire Tibungco

Long before she would lead an entire district, she stood before a Grade 6 class at Sixto Babao Elementary School with well-prepared lessons, high expectations, and a deep belief in the potential of every learner. Today, that same teacher, Dr. Josephine C. Bargayo, PhD, returns to Tibungco with a new mission—as the newly assigned Public Schools District Supervisor of Tibungco District.

As a former Grade 6 teacher of Sixto Babao, Dr. Bargayo left a lasting mark through her exemplary instructional practices and dedication to learner development. Beyond the classroom, she also made her mark as a winning coach in badminton, campus journalism, and various academic competitions, helping learners discover their talents, build confidence, and pursue excellence.

Her journey from teacher to district leader is a testament to the enduring influence of a great educator. The lessons she once taught inside the classroom continue to live in the learners she mentored—many of whom have grown into professionals and educators themselves, carrying forward the discipline, love for learning, and determination she helped instill.

Now, as she assumes her new role, Dr. Bargayo brings with her a leadership philosophy grounded not in authority, but in service: “I do not come to rule, but to serve, support, and stand with you. As your steward, I will walk beside you, to strengthen what is good, to grow together, to lift one another up, and should you need redirection, I will be there to guide you back away from something that may harm you.”

From the classroom of Sixto Babao to the leadership of Tibungco District, Dr. Bargayo’s story has come full circle. The Sixto Babao Elementary School learning community proudly celebrates one of its own and looks forward to seeing her continue to inspire, guide, and transform lives—this time, across an entire district.

Helping Teachers Teach Better: SBES Mentors Receive DepEd Lapels

Teachers of Sixto Babao Elementary School officially received wireless lapel microphones provided by the Department of Education (DepEd) as part of the agency's continuing efforts to equip teachers with instructional resources that improve the quality of classroom teaching.

"Malaki ang tulong ng lapel na ito sa aming mga g**o. Mas naririnig kami ng mga estudyante at mas madali nilang maiintindihan ang aming leksyon," shared Mrs. Lourlie Balante, Grade 5 Master Teacher. With clearer voice projection and greater classroom mobility, the lapels are expected to enhance learner engagement and improve the overall teaching-learning experience.

Sixto Babao Elementary School sincerely thanks DepEd for this meaningful initiative. By investing in tools that support effective instruction, DepEd continues to empower teachers and ensure that every learner receives quality education in the classroom.

Embodying the true spirit of Bayanihan, the Sixto Babao Elementary School (SBES) community extended a helping hand to learners and families affected by the recent flood at Leon Garcia Elementary School in Talomo, Davao City on August 5, 2026.

Through the inspiring initiative of the SBES Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG) and the overwhelming generosity of our pupils, parents, and teachers, the drive successfully gathered ₱14,505.00 in cash, alongside essential school supplies and cleaning materials to aid our fellow learners in getting back on their feet.

This outreach is a powerful reminder of what a united school community can achieve when driven by compassion and a strong commitment to service. We hope these contributions bring comfort, hope, and encouragement to our neighbors in need.

Sincere appreciation goes to our SELG coordinator, Ma'am Crycel S. Dapat, for spearheading this meaningful endeavor with dedication and leadership.
