Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University will organize the first round of Chinese Proficiency Tests(HSK) and the Chinese Proficiency Speaking Test(HSKK) in the first half of 2026 on January 24th. The registration information regarding the tests is as follows:

On November 16, 2025, the Board of Directors of Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University was successfully held at the Celebrity International Hotel in Beijing. A total of 10 members of the Chinese and Filipino Boards of CI Addu attended the meeting.

Among them, the Chinese board included:
- Professor Wu Jianping, President of 华侨大学 Huaqiao University(HQU) and Chinese Chair of CI-AdDU;
- Professor Lin Hongyu, Vice President of HQU and Chinese Vice Chair;
- Mr. Tu Wei, Director of International Chinese Language Education Office of HQU and Chinese board member;
- Ms. Han Jiachen, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office of HQU and Chinese board member;
- Mr. Lei Yun, Section Chief of International Chinese Education Office of HQU and Chinese Board member; and
- Professor Luo Jianping, Chinese Director of CI-AdDU.

The Filipino board attending the meeting included:
- Mr. Jimmy E. Delgado, Vice President of Ateneo de Davao University(AdDU),
- Dr. Nelly Z. Limbadan, Dean of School of Arts and Sciences of AdDU and Filipino board member,
- Dr. Jenner Y. Chan, Director of Ateneo de Davao Academy of Lifelong Learning(ADD-ALL) and Filipino board member, and
- Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, Filipino Director of CI-AdDU.

In the CI Work Report, Professor Luo Jianping, the Chinese Director, comprehensively summarized the achievements of CI-AdDU in the past 6 years, objectively analyzed the areas in the work of CI-AdDU that need to be improved, enhanced and strengthened, and then put forward the development plan of CI-AdDU for the next 5 years (2026-2030), and made the 2025 financial settlement and the 2026 financial budget report.

President Wu Jianping of HQU fully affirmed the achievements made by CI-AdDU in his speech, emphasized the role of CI-AdDU in promoting friendly relations between China and the Philippines.

At the meeting, the Chinese and Filipino board members had in-depth discussions on the development of CI-AdDU and the cooperation between the two universities, and each board member offered their opinions and suggestions.
The Board unanimously agreed to deepen cooperation and expand the scope of cooperation from language teaching and cultural exchanges to natural science, technology, engineering, and urbanization.
The Board agreed to promote high-level mutual visits and youth student exchange programs, and planned to organize delegations of presidents and principals from Mindanao to visit China.

This Board of Directors was the first offline board meeting since the establishment of CI-AdDU in 2019. The success of this meeting has laid a solid foundation for the future development of CI-AdDU, and has also opened up broader prospects for cooperation between HQU & AdDU as well as between China and the Philippines in the fields of education, culture, and science and technology.

On November 17, the Joint Council Meeting of Confucius Institutes(Classrooms) Co-established by 华侨大学 Huaqiao University was held in the same hotel.
During the experience exchange session, Dr. Panda, the Filipino Director of CI-AdDU, made a report on the successful experience of CI-AdDU’s characteristic development.

On November 14-16, the 2025 World Chinese Language Conference - an international gathering of leaders in Chinese language learning - was held in Beijing.

Mr. Jimmy E. Delgado, Vice President of Ateneo de Davao University, Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, the Filipino Director of Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University, Professor Luo Jianping, the Chinese Director, and Cheng Ailian, the Chinese teacher, attended the conference in Beijing.

With the theme of “Innovation Leads, AI Empowers - Learning Chinese Without Borders”, the World Chinese Language Conference attracted more than 1,950 representatives from more than 1,500 educational institutions in more than 160 countries and regions to gather in Beijing.

During the conference, the delegation of CI Addu and the delegation of 华侨大学 Huaqiao University(HQU), the Chinese partner university of CI-AdDU, and representatives of the four other Confucius Institutes (classrooms) Co-established by HQU in Thailand, Myanmar, and Austria gathered in Beijing to exchange Chinese teaching experience and cooperation results, promote the integration and development of international Chinese education, and also demonstrate the joint efforts of all parties to promote the spread of Chinese culture.

On the evening of November 4, the opening ceremony for the Davao Filipino-Chinese Youth Chinese Proficiency Enhancement Program(First Session) was held at the Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter building.

Co-organized by Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University and the Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter, the Enhancement Program launched its inaugural session with beginner and intermediate classes, enrolling over 40 students. The program aims to establish a Chinese language learning platform for Davao's Filipino-Chinese youth, helping them cultivate deep cultural identity and strengthen their spiritual foundation through language study.

Mr. Xu Yishan, President of the Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter, shared his vision for advancing Chinese language education, encouraging students to study Chinese well to become youthful ambassadors of China-Philippine friendship.

The Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University emphasized that CI Addu carries the mission of “disseminating Chinese culture and serving the local Chinese community”. This program marks the beginning of CI Addu and 华侨大学 Huaqiao University's efforts to “serve overseas Chinese” in Davao. CI Addu will continue to provide high-quality teaching resources and faculty support for the program.

Mr. Liu Lang, Consul at Chinese Consulate General in Davao, read out a congratulatory letter from Con. Gen. Zhao Xiuzhen and delivered closing remarks, further guiding participants toward using Chinese as a bridge to preserve cultural heritage.

Starting this night, the “Davao Filipino-Chinese Youth Chinese Proficiency Enhancement Program” will guide participants in exploring the rhythms of Chinese characters and cultural heritage, opening a new chapter in preserving Chinese culture and deepening the profound bond between overseas Chinese youth and their homecountry.

We hereby announce the commencement for the first session of the program as follows:
现将“达沃菲华青少年中文提高班”(第一期)开班时间及其它事项公告如下:

1.Opening Date: 6 PM, November 4
18:00-18:30 Opening Ceremony
18:30-20:30 First class.
(A Chinese proficiency test will be administered to students, and course schedules and teaching management regulations will be announced.)

Davao Filipino-Chinese Youth Chinese Proficiency Enhancement Program accepts applications year-round. Students who meet the eligibility requirements may be placed into existing classes based on their Chinese proficiency level. Due to limited seating, enrollment will not be permitted once a class reaches 30 students; applicants will need to wait until the next session begins.

Davao Filipino-Chinese Youth Chinese Proficiency Enhancement Program Enrollment
“达沃菲华青少年中文提高班”招生公告

To assist Filipino-Chinese youth in Davao with improving their Chinese language skills, deepening their understanding of Chinese culture, and strengthening their cultural roots and identity, the Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter and the Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University have jointly decided to launch the “Davao Filipino-Chinese Youth Chinese Proficiency Enhancement Program(the Enhancement Program)”.
为帮助达沃菲华青少年更好地学习中文,提高自身的中文理解和运用能力,深化对中华文化的理解,以强化菲华青少年的文化根脉与身份认同感,经研究,菲律宾洪门进步党棉兰佬支部与达沃雅典耀大学孔子学院决定联合举办“达沃菲华青少年中文提高班”。

1. Course Arrangements
Classes Offered and Schedule:
“The Enhancement Program” will initially offer Beginner and Intermediate Chinese classes. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Friday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Location:
Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter Building, Monteverde St., Chinatown, Davao City.

On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, friendship filled Mindanao.

On October 4, 2025, Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University and Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter joined hands to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at the Red Lantern Restaurant. Gathering together to admire the full moon and share warm camaraderie, everyone enjoyed a joyous and harmonious evening of reunion.

Hosted by Ms. Zhang Li, the evening featured performances by Dr. Luo Jianping, the Chinese Director, and the Mandarin teachers. Melodious songs filled the air, with familiar tunes evoking homesickness and deep cultural resonance among attendees. The exciting raffle and red envelope giveaway segments brought the atmosphere to a fever pitch, filling everyone with joy and delight.

Distinguished guests including Mr. Xu Yishan, President of the Philippine Progressive Mason Club, Inc. Mindanao Chapter, and Lü Liangjie, Permanent Honorary President, extended festive blessings to the audience. Sharing in the joy of reunion with fellow compatriots, they further strengthened mutual bonds.

The successful hosting of this Mid-Autumn Festival get-together not only established a robust platform for cultural exchange and emotional connection between both parties but also deepened the profound friendship between CI Addu and the local Chinese communities. It allowed the reunion symbolism of the Mid-Autumn Festival and the unique charm of Chinese culture to shine brilliantly in a foreign land.

On the morning of September 30, 2025, the 10th anniversary celebration of Institute at the University of the Philippines Diliman(CI-UPD) was held at the University Theater of UP. Dr. Luo Jianping, the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University, Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, the Filipino Direcctor of CI Addu as well as Dr. Jenner Chan, the Filipino Chair member of the Board of CI Addu and the Director of de Davao Academy of Lifelong Learning were invited to attend the ceremony.

During the ceremony, both directors of CI Addu and both directors of CI-UPD had an exchange of views, hoping that the two Confucius Institutes would strengthen their cooperation in the fields of education and culture in the future and jointly promote the development of Chinese education in the Philippines.

After the ceremony, the delegation from CI Addu paid a special visit to Ma. Hazeline Pia Barroso, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Bureau of Immigration, to discuss the issue of visas for Confucius Institute teachers.

On September 27, 2025, to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the National Day Get-together Dinner hosted by the Association of Davao Fil-Chinese Communities was grandly held at the Red Lantern Restaurant.

Her Excellency Zhao Xiuzhen, Consul General of China in Davao, attended the event. Dr. Luo Jianping, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University, along with the Chinese language teachers, were invited to the dinner.
Ms. Zhang Li served as the emcee for the evening.

This banquet was not only a grand celebration of the motherland's birthday but also a bridge connecting CI Addu with the local Chinese community and the Consulate General of China. It further strengthened emotional bonds as well.

May our motherland prosper ever more, and may CI Addu continue to contribute to China-Philippine cultural exchange and other endeavors in the future.

On September 25, Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University successfully hosted the “Encounter China: A Cultural Feast—2025 Confucius Institute Day” event.

Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, S.J., PhD., Vice President for Higher Education at Ateneo de Davao University, attended the event and delivered the opening remarks. In his remarks, Fr. Basilio noted that “for our students, it has become a joyful experience and learning opportunity to appreciate the heritage of once the world’s oldest civilization and celebrate the divisity of our own community. Today’s event embodies both Chinese culture and Chinese and Jesuit wisdom.” “Together this tradition reminds us that learning is not only for the mind, but also for the soul.”

Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, the Philippine Director of CI Addu, Dr. Luo Jianping, the Chinese Director of CI Addu, and nearly 300 faculty and students participated in the event.

Centered on cultural immersion, this year's CI day event aimed to allow Ateneo community to experience the richness of Chinese culture in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
CI-AdDU’s Mandarin instructors meticulously prepared cultural activities including Qi Shan lacquer fan making, Calligraphy workshops (writing the character “福” for “blessing”), Peking Opera facial mask painting, Chinese knot braiding, Tou Hu arrow-throwing games, and Hanfu attire experiences.
Faculty and students enthusiastically tried various activities and crafts, experiencing the unique charm of Chinese culture through hands-on participation.

Confucius Institute at Ateneo de Davao University will continue to innovate its activities, build more high-quality platforms, promote China-Philippine cultural exchange and cooperation, and inject new vitality into deepening China-Philippines friendship.
