During the second part of FutureTHINK Davao, nearly 100 youth leaders from across the Davao Region reflected on that question, sharing bold ideas and actionable visions for the future they hope to build on April 18, 2026, at Seda Hotel in Davao City.
The event, co-organized by ScienceKonek, NAC Foundation, Inc. - NACFI, and USeP Mining Engineering Society, challenged young minds to reimagine the region through six pillars of development: education, environment, governance, health, infrastructure, and natural resources.
During the group discussions, youth leaders representing each development pillar examined the current realities in Davao, identifying key challenges that hinder sustainable growth and sharing their visions for the kind of progress they hope to achieve by 2050. These conversations were guided by faculty facilitators from University of Southeastern Philippines.
Despite coming from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities, and fields, the Davaoeรฑo youth found common ground, aligning their perspectives around shared goals for the region.
During the plenary presentation, they reimagined pathways forward, strengthened by insights and challenges from esteemed speakers Mr. Jose Bayani Baylon of NAC and Mr. Ralph Abainza of ScienceKonek, who encouraged the groups to refine and elevate their proposed roadmaps.
Closing the event, USeP MinES President Christian Rex Dagondon expressed his gratitude to fellow youth leaders and organizers for igniting not just ideas, but a renewed sense of hope for a brighter future for Davao and the Philippines.
In the coming days, weโll be unpacking the youth leadersโ insights across the six development pillars, highlighting the ideas we believe are most worth sharing.

Co-organized by ScienceKonek, NAC Foundation, Inc. - NACFI, and USeP Mining Engineering Society, the event challenged young minds to reimagine the region through six pillars of development: education, environment, governance, health, infrastructure, and natural resources.
Opening the event, University of Southeastern Philippines President Dr. Bonifacio Gabales Jr. urged participants to push beyond the status quo. NAC President and CEO Mr. Martin Antonio G. Zamora followed with a call to redefine the โPhilippine Dream,โ placing national progress in the hands of the youth.
The conversation deepened during the plenary session, where Mr. Jose Bayani Baylon emphasized resilience amid disruption, urging participants to pair knowledge with creativity in navigating a rapidly evolving world.
Adding a youth perspective, ScienceKonek Founder Ralph Lauren Abainza challenged attendees to reflect on their purpose, move beyond superficial engagement, and commit to long-term change. Meanwhile, Dr. Daisy Besing guided participants through reflective exercises, prompting them to identify meaningful pledges and concrete actions.

Countless smiles and genuine laughter from the young
boys filled the day as the EIC and Outreach program of the University of Southeastern Philippines - Mining
Engineering Society (USeP-MinES), "๐๐๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐๐๐,"
successfully commenced last February 14, 2026. Marking a meaningful act of kindness and connection during Valentine's Day.
Following last year's success, our mission has brought us back to ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ค๐ ๐ฟ๐ง๐๐๐ข๐จ ๐พ๐๐๐ก๐๐ง๐๐ฃโ๐จ ๐พ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ฎ ๐๐ค๐ช๐ฃ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ in Biao Guianga, Tugbok District, Davao City, where the organization has prepared educational kits, school supplies, bags, school shoes, and other necessities.
The said outreach program have catered 21
children, consisting of Grade 2 (1), Grade 3 (1), Grade 4
(2), Grade 5 (3), Grade 6 (2), Grade 8 (4), Grade 9 (4),
Grade 10 (1), Grade 11 (1), and Grade 12 (2) students all ranging from ages 10 to 18 years old.
During the event, educational discussions were held with young boys to dispel misconceptions about the
mining industry and introduce the field of mining engineering and its benefits to society as a whole.
Moreover, the program featured engaging, informative activities, with the boys eagerly participating in interactive games for prizes, filling the event with laughter, excitement, and a pure atmosphere of positive energy.
The event concluded with the heartfelt distribution of donations and a shared free lunch, after which the boys expressed their sincere appreciation through a touching "thank you" song.
With the success of the event, USePโMinES looks
forward to forging an official partnership with Field of
Dreams Children's Charity Foundation, aiming to continue and strengthen initiatives to provide sustained support and meaningful opportunities to children.
Founded in 2007, the Field of Dreams Children's
Charity Foundation began operations with the primary
goal of providing a safe, nurturing haven for homeless
boys in the Philippines, starting with the construction of
an orphanage in Tugbok, Mindanao, to offer shelter,
education, and hope for a better future.

Davao City, spanning an impressive 2,443.6 square kilometers, is widely recognized as the largest city in the Philippines, but its true scale often goes unnoticed.

This infographic brings that reality to life, comparing the land areas of these 27 provinces, including Metro Manila, to scale with Davao City. Itโs striking to see that Davao surpasses even some of the countryโs most densely populated provinces, such as Cavite, Laguna, and Pampanga.

We often say that the youth are the future of this country, but what happens when that future stays silent at the polls?
In the Davao Region, only 69.3% of registered youth voters showed up during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. That leaves 336,235 voices unheardโvotes that could have shaped leadership and changed the direction of their communities. So where are they?
Many young voters choose not to participate due to a mix of social, economic, and political factors. Studies show that family influence, misinformation, weak trust in candidates, and frustration with political systems can discourage turnout, especially when youth feel their vote will not lead to real change or better governance.
This coming April 18, more than 100 youth leaders across the Davao Region will come together for to discuss key challenges that hinder Davaoeรฑos from achieving the future Davao they envision by 2050.

With all the excitement about the II mission, many Filipinos ask: When will we have a space launch in the Philippines? For years, there have been reports that the first space launch center could be in Davao Region!
As early as 2017, Mati City in Davao Oriental has emerged as a leading candidate for the Philippinesโ first spaceport, driven by its strategic location near the equator and open access to the Pacific. In 2023, reports indicate that Elon Muskโs SpaceX is exploring a possible launchpad in Mindanao, which could boost satellite launches, jobs, and scientific innovation.
