IN PHOTOS | A semester abroad can change the way a student experiences learning. New classrooms, different cultures, and everyday encounters all become part of the experience, often leaving students with perspectives they carry long after the semester ends.

For Ms. Bea Nicole L. Yap, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Business Management student from the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) School of Business and Governance, the experience has taken her to Saint Martin's University (SMU) in Lacey, Washington, USA, where she is studying the Fall 2026 / First Semester as an exchange student from August to December 2026. This has been supported by the Ateneo de Davao University Global Citizenship Fund (GCF).

At SMU, Bea is taking courses in business analytics and statistics, quantitative decision-making, human resource management, marketing, and operations management. These courses complement her BS Business Management curriculum at ADDU while introducing her to different approaches to business education, classroom discussion, and academic coursework.

Studying at another university also gives Bea the opportunity to learn alongside international students and professors while experiencing a vibrant campus life. She has joined cultural and social activities, including a recent excursion to Mt. Rainier, where she spent time with fellow students and visited one of Washington State’s well-known natural landmarks.

The Ateneo de Davao University wishes Bea well as she completes her semester at Saint Martin’s University. Ad majorem Dei gloriam!

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo de Davao University, through the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office and the Department of Theology, hosted Fr. Felix Körner, SJ and Mr. Muhammed Mansur Doğan of the Central Institute for Catholic Theology (IKT), Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, for a two-week academic visit from 30 August to 13 September 2026.

Across lectures, theological conversations, fora, and encounters with students and faculty, the academic visit opened space for reflection on questions deeply relevant to Mindanao and the wider world, including faith and theological reflection, and interreligious dialogue.

Among the major academic engagements were the Theological Forum on “Why Study Theology? The Sense of Thinking Faith,” Mr. Doğan’s lecture on “Interfaith Marriages,” the theological conversation on “Interfaith Dialogue: New Principles, Problems, and Prospects,” and the 4th Annual Theological (Pakighinabi) Conversation on “Preserved and Precious: Rethinking the Human Person in the Age of AI.”

The second week of the academic engagements also formed part of the University’s Theology Days, during which Fr. Körner and Mr. Doğan led special lectures that served as alternative class sessions.

In support of the University’s Fortiores 2030 Strategic Plan the International Learning Sessions strengthened local and international academic partnerships while creating spaces for dialogue, critical reflection, and collaboration across disciplines and faith traditions.

The University extends its heartfelt appreciation to Fr. Körner and Mr. Doğan for the generosity of their presence and for the scholarly conversations and reflections they shared with the ADDU community and its partners.

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) joined the 4th UNSBA Global Student Motion (UGEO) 2026, hosted by Universitas Islam Bandung ( UNISBA ), Indonesia, from 24 to 28 August 2026.

The international program invited student leaders, educators, and scholars from different countries for academic exchange, cultural immersion, and collaborative discussions centered on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The participants from ADDU were Ms. Trisha Jean Acabal, a 2nd-year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies student, and Mr. Javen Jake Deluao, a 4th-year Bachelor of Public Management student. They were accompanied by Ms. Karen Anne E. San Pedro, MEd, MAEd, Chairperson of the Teacher Education Program, School of Education.

The opening day also marked an important milestone in the growing partnership between ADDU and UNISBA. Ms. San Pedro represented Ateneo de Davao University in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Universitas Islam Bandung, together with Prof. Ratna Januarita, S.H., LL.M., M.H., Vice Rector of Alumni Affairs and Partnership.

Beyond accompanying the students, Ms. San Pedro also contributed to the academic component of UGEO 2026 as one of the guest lecturers under SDG 4: Quality Education. Her presentation, “The Mover: How Youth Action Drives Inclusive Education,” focused on the role of young people in creating more inclusive learning environments.

Participants also worked together in focus group discussions on SDGs 4, 10, and 11, where they developed proposed responses to challenges related to education, inequality, and sustainable urban development.

Aside from the participation in UNISBA, Ms. San Pedro also visited our partner institution, Telkom University, where she met faculty and academic administrators to explore possible collaborations in guest lectures, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), joint research, and community engagement, with the ADDU School of Education.

IN PHOTOS | The 16th Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific Service-Learning Program 2026 (AJCU-AP SLP) gathered students and faculty from Jesuit institutions across the Asia Pacific in Timor-Leste from 2 to 16 August 2026. With the theme, “Peace and Reconciliation: A Perspective of Post-Conflict Country Experience,” the program, hosted by Instituto São João de Brito (ISJB), invited participants to learn from Timor-Leste’s journey through conflict, independence, nation-building, and reconciliation.

Representing Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) were Ms. Rogelle P. Pesidas, an AB International Studies major in Asian Studies; Mr. Rexen Jhon F. Suaybaguio, a BS Chemistry student; and Mr. Annan F. Hamdain, a BS Social Work student. They were accompanied by Ms. Jhana Lynne B. Ligue, Program Coordinator of the Arrupe Office of Social Formation.

Throughout the two-week program, participants engaged in community encounters, intercultural dialogue, and guided reflections on the realities of peace and reconciliation in a post-conflict society. The program created opportunities to meet communities whose lives continue to carry the legacies of conflict, including survivors of violence, rural and urban communities, youth, women, and Indigenous groups. Through these encounters, participants reflected on justice, memory, solidarity, and the relationships that sustain peace across generations.

The experience placed participants within the historical and social context of Timor-Leste, a country shaped by decades of colonial rule, occupation, violence, and the continuing work of rebuilding after conflict. Alongside these difficult histories, participants also encountered local practices of peacebuilding rooted in community, faith, and tradition. These spaces invited them to consider how the lessons of Timor-Leste could speak to the realities of their own countries and communities.

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) joined student leaders from Jesuit institutions across the Asia-Pacific region for the 16th Global Leadership Program (GLP), held from 9 to 15 August 2026 at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea.

With the theme “Global Citizenship,” the program facilitated lectures, cultural exchanges, field visits, and conversations on democracy, peace, technology, and leadership, while asking them to reflect on how global engagement connects with responsibilities at home.

The ADDU delegation were Ms. Hyacinth Louise R. Duldulao, a fourth-year BS Marketing student, and Mr. Teodore John G. Naraga, a fourth-year BA Political Science student, accompanied by formator and the Coordinator of the Seniors’ Integration Program of Arrupe Office of Social Formation, Ms. Precious Kyrie Undag.

Hosted through the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific (AJCU-AP), the GLP explored global citizenship through three areas: cross-cultural activities and youth, social justice and democracy, and artificial intelligence and higher education. Participants engaged with these themes through university presentations, cultural activities, institutional visits, and field experiences across Seoul and nearby areas.

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo de Davao University conducted the Presentation and Orientation of the Partnerships Framework and Portal on 19 August 2026 via Zoom video conference.

The session introduced the Partners in the Mission: University Partnerships Framework, together with its Operational Procedures. The Framework sets out the policy foundations, governance principles, and institutional processes that guide the development and management of University partnerships.

Through the University Partnerships Framework and the Central Partnership Registry, Ateneo de Davao University seeks to improve coordination, strengthen institutional oversight, support consistent documentation, and align its partnerships with the University’s mission and strategic priorities.

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office, in collaboration with the International Students Organization (ISO), hosted the Orientation and General Assembly for Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) International Students on 18 September 2026 at the Miguel Pro Learning Commons Multi-Purpose Room, 2/F Community Center of the First Companions.

With the theme, “Globally Rooted, Locally Connected,” this year’s event welcomed both new and continuing international undergraduate and graduate students. International students from the St. Alphonsus Theological and Mission Institute Foundation, Inc. (SATMI), an affiliated theological institute of ADDU that offers theology and mission programs for seminarians, religious, and lay students from various countries and dioceses, also joined this year’s gathering.

The General Assembly also provided an opportunity for the University’s international student community to learn more about the ISO, as the organization presented its current officers, initiatives, and opportunities for students to participate in its activities.

We extend our appreciation to our guest speakers: Ms. Ma. Lourdes M. Danila, Immigration Officer II and Officer-in-Charge of the Foreign Student Desk Section at the Bureau of Immigration Davao District Office, who introduced the Foreign Student Desk Section and discussed relevant immigration policies and procedures for international students; Atty. Ira R. Calatrava-Valenzuela, CDPO, CSASS, Assistant Director of the Office of Student Affairs, who led a session on student engagement and welfare, including digital and campus conduct, the University’s Social Media Policy, the Safe Spaces Act (R.A. 11313), and the Data Privacy Act (R.A. 10173); and Ms. Kathlynn Keith J. Abaquita, RGC, RPsy, RPm, Director of the Higher Education College Wellness and Testing Center, who introduced the Center’s programs and services and discussed practices that support student well-being, from care and formation to mission.

We also extend our appreciation to the ISO officers for their assistance throughout the whole-day activities and for helping create a welcoming and engaging experience for our international student community.

Through initiatives such as this, the University supports international students to thrive academically, maintain their well-being, and engage more fully in campus life.

LOOK | The Ateneo de Davao University hosted the Book Launch of distinguished alumnus and former Ambassador Joseph Gerard B. Angeles on 16 September 2026 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium, Jacinto Campus.

The event featured his book, DIVERGENT: The Trade and Development Experience of Asia and Africa, and invited members of the University community for a discussion on the role of international trade in economic growth and human development. The conversation examined the opportunities and challenges of global trade, including trade liberalization, protectionism, and the use of trade as an economic and geopolitical tool. It also offered insights into what these developments mean for emerging and developing economies, particularly the Philippines.

IN PHOTOS | The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) joined Jesuit higher education leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region at the 2026 Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific (AJCU-AP) Annual CEO Meeting held from 23-27 August 2026, at Politeknik ATMI Surakarta, Indonesia.

Representing ADDU were Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, SJ, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement, and Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, Executive Assistant to the President and Director of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office.

As part of the meeting’s institutional and program updates, ADDU delivered a report on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). The University’s contribution highlighted COIL as an important approach to internationalization, enabling students and faculty from institutions in different countries to collaborate through technology-supported academic activities without requiring physical mobility.

Through the participation of Fr. Basilio and Mr. Bueza, the University continued to support its commitment to responsible innovation, international cooperation, community engagement, and accessible, human-centered approaches to global education.
