SHAPE-SEA, in partnership with the ASEAN University Network โ Human Rights Education, brings the first webinar in the series, titled Holding the Line: Defending Human Rights and Peace in Southeast Asia. This webinar will explore ASEAN regional frameworks on human rights trends and their links to human rights and peace, as well as trends in research and advocacy in the region. Our resource persons, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayesah Uy Abubakar and Ms. Chandy Eng will also discuss the intersectionality of human rights and peace with gender, connecting national experiences to regional frameworks.
Our discussants, Assoc. Prof. Maria Corazon โMarionโ Jimenez-Tan and Asst. Prof. Dennis Bonalos Coronel, will bring diverse perspectives, from translating international norms and regional frameworks into local contexts, to decolonizing human rights language, and sharing community-level experiences where socio-economic rights must be realized to promote sustainable peace and development. This session will also emphasize the importance of continuous education and research on human rights and peace, utilizing indigenous knowledge and ensuring that findings from emerging research reach back down to the grassroots level.
