Nutrition Month is celebrated every July pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 491, which created the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and institutionalized a nationwide campaign to promote nutrition awareness and healthy lifestyles among Filipinos. For its 52nd celebration, the National Nutrition Council adopted the sub-theme “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!”, highlighting the vital connection between proper nutrition, environmental stewardship, and sustainable practices in building healthier communities.
In support of this advocacy and in keeping with the directive that co-curricular activities should not disrupt instructional time, the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Department of Dasmariñas West National High School integrated the celebration into regular classroom instruction. Instead of conducting separate programs or competitions, Nutrition Month concepts were contextualized within the prescribed learning competencies across Grades 7 to 10.
Through this approach, the 2026 Nutrition Month celebration became more than a separate school activity. Learners discovered how their TLE knowledge and skills can contribute to healthier families, responsible resource use, and more sustainable communities.
Across different learning areas, ordinary classroom tasks became meaningful opportunities to connect technical skills with nutrition and environmental responsibility. From planting and aquaculture to food preparation, digital citizenship, computer servicing, plumbing, electrical servicing, and carpentry, learners applied their competencies in ways that support both people and the environment.
More importantly, the initiative reflects the shared commitment of teachers and learners to make learning relevant to real-life concerns. By bringing “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!” into everyday classroom experiences, the TLE Department demonstrated that competency-based learning can go beyond developing skills—it can also nurture awareness, responsibility, and active participation in building healthier and more sustainable communities.
