The Role of Thesis Advisers in Preparing Student Researchers for Pre Oral and Final Oral Defense ( Mac Rey and Yen Enzo Gift Pural )

In the FRV College of Computer Science, thesis advisers serve as the primary support system for student researchers as they move through the stages of system development and documentation. From the beginning of the project, advisers help students shape a clear problem statement, refine their objectives, and select the correct tools, programming languages, and methodologies for the system they plan to create. They make sure that every student understands the technical foundation of the study and can explain the logic behind each design choice.

As the project progresses, advisers provide detailed feedback on system architecture, data flow, interface design, and testing processes. They check for inconsistencies, security concerns, and features that may need to be reworked. Through this process, students improve the quality of their system while learning how to justify their decisions with sound reasoning. This technical guidance builds a strong base that is essential for both the pre oral and final oral defenses.

Advisers also help students strengthen the research manuscript. They review each chapter, ensuring that the background of the study, related literature, research design, implementation, and results are clear and well organized. They make sure diagrams, tables and screenshots are accurate and placed where they support the discussion. They also help students polish the language of the manuscript so that it reads smoothly and meets academic standards.

One of the most important ways advisers prepare students is through defense rehearsals. Before the pre oral defense, advisers conduct practice sessions where students present their system, walk through their slides, and answer sample questions. These rehearsals help students become familiar with the flow of their presentation and identify parts they need to explain better. Advisers ask both technical and conceptual questions similar to what panelists usually raise, which prepares students to respond with clarity instead of hesitation.

Leading up to the final oral defense, advisers intensify their support. They help students revise their slides, simplify complex explanations, and highlight the parts of the system that showcase its originality and usefulness. They remind students of common panel expectations, such as demonstrating the system’s functionality, discussing limitations honestly, and showing awareness of how the system can be improved in the future.

Beyond academic and technical support, advisers also provide emotional guidance. They encourage students during stressful periods, help them stay organized, and motivate them to keep improving their work. Their steady presence helps students build confidence and develop a professional mindset that is crucial for a successful defense.

Overall, thesis advisers in the FRV College of Computer Science play a vital role not only in strengthening the project but also in developing the student’s confidence, communication skills, and readiness to face the panel. Their guidance ensures that by the time students reach their pre oral and final oral defenses, they are prepared, well informed, and capable of defending their research with confidence. --- FRV CCS Chairman, Edsel Monsalud

Few years back...'
Three of my CS guys dodged FINAL exam because they did not make it arrived on time coz they went around, (someone saw them in Pantalan...) AND... They came up with a plan, got themselves dirty using grease then went to see ME, their Dean. ”Sir we are sorry we couldn't make it to the exam. We attended a wedding and on our way back the motorbike broke down thus we became so dirty as you can see. As their kind Dean it was being understood and gave them three days to prepare. After three days they went to ME,,, very ready for the exam because they had studied. I put them in three separate classrooms... There were only four items in the exam paper;
1. Who and who got married? (25 points)
2. Where was the reception held? (25 points)
3. Where exactly did the motorbike broke down? (25 points)
4.What type /or part of a motorbike broke down? And what you did to fix it..? (25 points)
Good luck, your answers must be the same.!!
Enjoy!!🤣😊😉

I've just reached 500 followers! Thank you for continuing support. I could never have made it without each one of you. 🙏...
