And The Truth Shall Set You Free😊

Today there are so many voices claiming to tell us the truth. 😊

We have various radio and television stations reporting, ☺
each one with its own version of the truth, quoting people who are supposedly telling the truth. 😊

But what truth is it?

And whose truth?

Most of what we hear is contradicted in the next hour and sometimes by the very person or persons that were quoted the hour before!😊

Much of what we hear is taken out of context and is actually not representative of the truth.☺

So how do we know who or what to believe? 😊

Jesus tells us how to know what the truth is.☺

If we abide in HIS word, and are truly his disciples, we will know the truth. 😊

Jesus gives us a yardstick by which to judge the truth of what we hear. 😊

The Gospels give us the teachings of Jesus so if we want to be set free, this is where we need to go to verify what we hear is true.☺

It is our responsibility to check it out. 😊

We can't just take for granted that the media is telling us the truth.😊

We have seen in history how easy it is for people to be brainwashed by media.😊

It happened in Germany in the 1930's and 1940's; it happened in advertising when movie theaters used to project images of candy or popcorn subliminally during movies just to increase the profits at the concession stand!😊

We need to protect ourselves from falsehoods, listen to Jesus' advice, and we will be free.😊

Start our day with inspiration😊😊

St. Paul warns us that there will be evils to fight in the day to day of our lives, ☺

and so tells us to put on the armor of God. ☺

We're in a battle even if we don't know it. 😊

Satan has been doing battle for the souls of men and women from the beginning, ☺

starting in Eden and won't end until the end of time. ☺

We aren't much better at recognizing him now than Adam and Eve. 😊

How do we protect and defend ourselves? 😊

Paul, gives us the answer but we don't always listen to him. 😊

We get up in the morning and prepare for our day: washing, eating, dressing, etc. but what about praying. 😊

Do we ask God each day to bless us in our comings and goings, 😊

to bless our work and our play, to be with us each moment of the day? 😊

This is putting on the armor of Christ. 😊

Asking Jesus to walk with us! I fail in this many times as well. 😊

Usually I remember to say thanks for another day, and I ask God to protect my loved ones, 😊

but I don't always remember to ask God to be with me. 😊

This is the final week before Holy Week, and Satan will be working overtime to lead us away from our Redeemer. 😊

Let us be ever vigilant.😊

Who's The Judge😊

We are so like the men in this passage from John. 😊

Quick to judge and we want that person punished.😊

There's a saying, "People who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones." 😊

Jesus knew what was in the hearts of the people who accused the woman caught in adultery. 😊

He wasn't going to play their game. ☺

In the Gospel, the men walked away, beginning with the oldest. ☺

But we know people – and maybe ourselves at times – that call out the secrets sins of others while trying to pretend we have blameless lives.😊

I believe that every one of us has something they would like to hide. 😊

It could be a youthful indiscretion or something more current, but we all have something. 😊

Would we like to be judged in the same way that we judge others?😊

I'm sure we can find excuses for any of our behaviors, and may not consider them sins, because we can justify them.😊

Don't we realize that the people we're judging also have reasons for their behavior as well? 😊

In the Gospel story, there's no mention of the man she was caught with – in the very act – just her.☺

In that day, ☺

a woman alone couldn't work and could be cast out of her husband's home if he so chose.☺

Maybe that was the only way she could have a place to live or food on her table. ☺

We'll never know. And maybe we shouldn't worry about judging our neighbor either. 😊

Who's the judge?😊

The answer to that is simple – God. 😊

Since we are not God, we don't have the right to judge.😊😊

What is this From Death To New Life😁

How many of us have cried out with Martha and Mary, 😊

"Lord, if you had been there, 😊

my brother – sister, mother, father, child, friend – would not have died?" ☺

Today's reading lets us know that Jesus was and is there when a loved one dies, ☺

and is ready to call him or her out to new life. ☺

Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. 😊

Just in case we still had doubts about the possibility of resurrection, 😊

Jesus clearly shows that all is possible.😊☺

Lazarus, of course, no longer walks the earth, so he must have died again and been buried again, ☺

and this time, he awakened into eternal life, not his earthly one. ☺

And so, all of us who have been baptized into the death of Christ have been promised that we, too, would awaken into eternal life. 😊

Mother Teresa once said that since she had died with Christ in baptism, she had nothing to fear. 😊

This gave her the courage to walk amid the streets of Calcutta helping the poor, the sick and the dying. 😊☺

What holds us back? 😊

What fears do we need to let die within us so that we might rise to new life? 😊☺

I have a fear of sounding like a fool when I don't recognize the voice of someone I should know on the phone. ☺😊

But if I let that fear control me, I wouldn't reach out to friends and family and my relationships would suffer. 😊

There are people who have such a fear of crowds that they don't leave their homes. 😊

People who have a fear of flying miss out on seeing the magnificent beauty of our world and getting to know other cultures and historical places.😊

Others have a fear of rejection, of being misunderstood, of being judged.😊

In his first letter, John tells us that perfect love wipes out fear.😊

In these last weeks of Lent, may we let the perfect love of the Lord so fill our hearts that all fear is washed away.😊❤

People Don't Like To Have Thair Faults Pointed Out❤

Jeremiah was trying to do God's work. 🙂

He was charged with encouraging the people to return to God, 😊

to stop worshiping idols, to turn away from evil or they would be destroyed. 🙂

So they decided to kill Jeremiah. 🙂

God warned him about their plan. 🙂

So appropriate that this comes as we are nearing the time when the chief priests and the Pharisees were plotting against Jesus. 🙂

None of us likes to have someone point out our faults. 🙂

Most of the time we don't act out of anger, but there are times when people have actually lost their jobs or their lives for being🙂

"whistle-blowers." Jeremiah did not stop prophesizing;🙂

he continued to work at bringing the people back to God.😊

Have you ever been in a situation where you knew there was wrong-doing, 😊

and you had to make a choice whether or not to tell those responsible about it? 😊

Knowing that there can be repercussions for acting, 😊

would we have the courage to act?😊

It is not easy to speak truth, and yet that is what God expects from us. 😊

When we believe we need to speak truth in any situation, 😊

the first thing to do is pray, and trust that God will provide the words as he did with Jeremiah.😊

There is Only One Messiah Jesus❤

Jesus was walking around Jerusalem openly. 😊

The people knew that the Pharisees and the chief priests wanted to kill Jesus,😊

but they couldn't understand why they were letting him walk around still teaching. 😊

Might the rulers have changed their minds and come to believe that Jesus was the Christ? 😊

I'm sure it was a confusing time for those who had heard and seen Jesus. 😊

Do you ever wonder if you would have been a believer?😊

I do. 😊

You know, 😊

we have centuries of fathers in faith before us. 😊

Christianity has been handed down from one generation to another since the time of the apostles. 😊

But if you're anything like me, 😊

there have been times when you have had doubts. 😊

In fact, 😊

if you have never had doubts, then how do you know you have faith? 😊

As children, 😊

we learn about Jesus from our parents or grandparents, or others close to us, 😊

and because we trust them, we believe. 😊

As we grow older, we learn more about Jesus from many sources. 🙂❤

Perhaps we read the Bible, or listened to or watched the evangelists on television or the radio. 🙂❤

Maybe we went to church and listened to the preaching, but at some point, we have to make a decision.🙂😊

We either test out our doubts and come to a faith that is our own,🙂😊

or we can go along following others without an adult faith. 🙂😊

Of course the last choice is to walk away. 😊

Just as the people of Jesus' time had to figure it out, so do we.🙂❤

WHO DO WE BELIEVE😊

The people of Jesus' time were looking for a Messiah, but a Messiah of their own design. 😊

We forget sometimes, that the Jewish people of every generation were waiting for the promised Messiah. 😊

Jesus even mentions in this passage that he is aware of the attention paid to the Scriptures to try and figure out who the Messiah might be. 😊

Jesus also tells them that a reading of the Scriptures leads to him.😊

Unfortunately, they wanted someone who would be a military leader and Jesus wasn't it. 😊

What are we looking for when we think about Jesus? 😊

You and I both know that people show up every once in a while proclaiming that they are the Messiah. 😊😊

They will lead us to God if only we listen to them and follow them without question. 😊

Often these people have caused damage to the lives of their followers, and some of their followers have lost their lives.😊

There is only one Messiah, Jesus.

If we believe that he is sent by the Father in order that we might be saved and also to teach us the way to the Father, 😊

then we need to pay attention to his word and not to the words of others claiming to know a better way.😊

It's still Lent,😊

we may or may not be still doing penance, 😊

it can be a tough time of the year weather-wise, 😊

and we can be ready for the promises of Spring. Does it feel as if God has not just forgotten you but the world as well. 😊

This reading from Isaiah is well chosen for this time of the year.😊😊

The fulfillment of the promise made in the Garden of Eden, to send a Messiah who will open the gates of heaven, to save us from the effects of sin and death is almost here. 😊

We have been listening to the message of hope and forgiveness proclaimed by Jesus for weeks and we've watched him heal the sick and raise the dead and yet we're still not satisfied. 😊

We're not quite ready to "be joyful" and "break forth into singing." 😊

But the Lord gives us an example of love that he says doesn't compare to the great amount of love he has for us.😊

He compares his love to that of a mother's love for her young child – and his love is greater. 😊

God's love is unconditional and undying. Easter is just around the corner.😊❤

The first time I saw Sidney Poitier in a movie was 🙂

in "The Lilies of the Field" for which he won an Oscar for best actor. 😊

The movie had a couple of important lessons and every time I read today's gospel passage I am reminded of both the movie and the lessons.🙂

A group of sisters want to build a chapel and they don't have the means to do it but believe that if they pray hard enough, the Lord will provide the means and men to do the work. 🙂

Sidney needs a place to stay and the Superior sees her man. He stays on and works to build the chapel. 🙂

Okay, you know there must be a twist! He tries to do it alone and fails. Eventually he must ask for help and the chapel is built.

Today we are being told not to worry about the needs of tomorrow but to concentrate on the "now." 😊

But what kind of "now" are we supposed to concentrate on?😊

Not, we are told, on what we are to eat and drink, 😊

but to seek first the kingdom of God and then God will provide everything else that we truly need just as he feeds the earth to bring forth the flowers and cares for the birds of the air. 😊

The second lesson from the movie is that we all need help at times. 😊

Sometimes we need to ask for help, and sometimes we need to be help for others. 😊

It is often through his people that God provides for our needs.😊

If we are truly seeking God's kingdom we will be ready both to ask for help and to offer it. 😊

As we continue this season of Lent. 😊

Let us reflect on the ways in which we will work to bring the kingdom to others through our prayers, fasting and almsgiving so that our celebration of Easter might be even more glorious.☺☺☺

The first thing I think of on this date is that 9 months from today it will be Christmas! But this is not what we should be reflecting upon. Imagine what it must have been like for Mary. Here she was, a simple girl in a small town, betrothed and getting ready to be married and now she is told that she has been chosen to be the mother of the Messiah. What must have gone through her mind! What will Joseph say? Will he still want to marry her? What does it mean to be a mother to a Savior? Joseph will answer the first two questions, but the rest she will have to learn, as most mothers do, day by day.

God has a plan for each of us as well. 😊

His plans are not made known in quite the same kind of grand announcement, ☺

but he does tell us. ☺

What do you enjoy doing? 😊

What gifts do you see in yourself? ☺

God doesn't ask us to do or be anything other than what he has prepared us to do. 😊

He doesn't ask one who gets F in science to be a doctor, for example. ☺

And since Jesus tells us that he has come to bring us joy,☺

he's not going to lead us to a vocation that will make us miserable.😊

But the one vocation all the baptized have is to bring the message of Jesus to others.😊

We do this by example as well as by word. 😊

He has planted the seed of faith in our hearts; all we have to do is live it.😊😊
