Marikina will host Youth Chess Championships
In an inspiring collaboration to promote strategic thinking, Hon. Mayor Marcy and Hon. Congresswoman Maan Teodoro have announced their joint sponsorship with National Chess Federation of the Philippines spearheaded by Chairman/ President Hon. Prospero A. Pichay Jr. of the upcoming Youth Chess Championships set to take place in Marikina City which is slated on January 6-7,2024 simultaneously in the event of the “Battle of the Grandmasters” 2023/ 2024 Philippine National Chess Championship.
The event aims to encourage young minds to develop critical thinking skills, strategic planning, and a sense of camaraderie through the game of chess.
The FIDE Rated Youth Chess Championships will bring together budding chess enthusiasts from various schools and cities from all over the Philippines. This event is not just a tournament; it is a platform designed to cultivate intellectual growth and foster sportsmanship.
The spirited and magnificent couple expressed their excitement about the upcoming event, stating, "Chess is not just a game; it's a mental exercise that teaches valuable life skills such as strategic thinking, patience, and resilience. By sponsoring the Youth Chess Championships, we hope to provide our youth with an opportunity to hone these skills and apply them in their academic and personal lives."

This event is in cooperation with Philippine Sports Commission together headed by Chairman Richard E. Bachmann, with Philippine Olympic Committee President Mayor Abraham N. Tolentino and in participation of Eugene Torre Chess Foundation President GM Eugene Torre and Pan De Amerikana proprietor Jundio Salvador
