πŸ“’ IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR VISA APPLICANTS

The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) has released updated processing-time information for migration and protection reviews.

The latest figures are based on cases finalised between 1 January 2026 and 30 June 2026.

πŒπˆπ†π‘π€π“πˆπŽπ π‘π„π•πˆπ„π–π’ β€” πŠπ„π˜ π…πˆπ†π”π‘π„π’

Across all migration case categories:

⏳ 50% of cases were finalised within 1 year and 6 months

⏳ 95% of cases were finalised within 2 years and 10 months

These figures are measured from the date the review application was lodged.

Protection review matters can take considerably longer.

πŸ“Œ 50% were finalised within 2 years and 5 months.

πŸ“Œ 95% were finalised within 5 years and 2 months.

πˆπŒππŽπ‘π“π€ππ“: 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐄 ππŽπ“ 𝐆𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐃 π“πˆπŒπ„π’

⚠️ ART processing statistics are guides only.

An individual case may be finalised considerably earlier or later depending on:

β€’ The complexity of the case
β€’ The type of decision being reviewed
β€’ The number of applications received
β€’ Tribunal workload and resources
β€’ The availability of Tribunal members
β€’ How the ART manages different caseloads

π•πˆπ’π€ 𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐀𝐋 πŽπ‘ π‚π€ππ‚π„π‹π‹π€π“πˆπŽπ? 𝐀𝐂𝐓 ππ”πˆπ‚πŠπ‹π˜

If you receive a visa refusal or cancellation decision and believe you have review rights, do not wait until the last minute.

You should check:

βœ… Whether the decision is reviewable
βœ… Whether you have review rights
βœ… The deadline for lodging the application
βœ… Your visa and bridging visa position
βœ… What evidence should be provided
βœ… Whether further information or submissions are required

⚠️ The time limit to lodge a review is completely different from the time the ART takes to finalise the review.

𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 π•πˆπ’π€ π‘π„π•πˆπ„π–π’

An important change applies to most student visa refusal reviews.

Since 1 June 2026, the ART generally decides student visa refusal reviews without an oral hearing, subject to limited exceptions.

This makes the written evidence and submissions supporting the review particularly important.

π‘π„π•πˆπ„π– 𝐅𝐄𝐄

From 1 July 2026, the migration review application fee is AUD $3,727.

A 50% fee reduction may be available in eligible financial hardship circumstances.

πŠπ„π˜ π“π€πŠπ„π€π–π€π˜

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί ART migration reviews can take a significant amount of time.

For all migration review categories combined:

➑️ 50% finalised within 18 months
➑️ 95% finalised within 34 months

However, these are statistical processing figures not guaranteed timeframes for individual applicants.

If you have received a visa refusal or cancellation, understanding your review rights, deadline and visa status should be a priority.
