A surge of color, unity, and student pride swept across the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) on April 10 as the Society for Protection of the Interests, Rights, Initiatives, and Talents of Students (SPIRITS) officially commenced SPIRITS Week 2025 with the theme โEmpowering the Future, Protecting the Present.โ
The annual SPIRITS Week, known for highlighting student initiatives and strengthening inter-organizational solidarity, commenced with a parade around the UNP campus, drawing attention to the presence and passion of the student body. Participants waved banners, wore organizational shirts, and marched in unity, marking a strong start to a week dedicated to student empowerment and involvement.
The dayโs central program was held at the UNP Gymnasium, gathering organization officers, student leaders, and university officials. The program formally began with a procession of the accredited organizations, followed by an invocation that set a solemn tone for the event.
SPIRITS Chief Chancellor Lovely May P. Azcueta welcomed attendees with her opening remarks. This was followed by a message from Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, University President. To keep the energy high, an intermission number showcased the talent and vibrancy of UNP students.
One of the eventโs most impactful moments came with the speech of Ms. Angelika Mae Lucero, former Student Council President, Student Regent, and SPIRITS Chief Chancellor. Drawing from her experiences, she inspired current student leaders to lead with integrity, compassion, and vision. In recognition of her contribution, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the organizers.
A pivotal part of the day was the oath-taking and induction of the accredited organization officers, led by Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President of Academic Affairs. This formalized the leadership of recognized groups across the university.
Dr. Mariano Paterno F. Avila, Adviser of SPIRITS, concluded the program with heartfelt closing remarks. The event ended on a high note with a photo opportunity, capturing the unity, pride, and promise of a new era of student leadership.
