Dean Baddu joins CSU-UTM International Exchange Program

Dr. Verlino D. Baddu, Dean of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of Cagayan State University–Sanchez Mira Campus, will represent Cagayan State University (CSU) in the Exchange Program on Multidisciplinary and SDG-Oriented Research and Development at the Institute of Bioproduct Development, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on August 16–21, 2026.

Dr. Baddu is among the five faculty representatives from CSU participating in the international academic initiative, which aims to strengthen global collaboration, promote research engagement, and provide opportunities for faculty and student mobility.

Joining Dr. Baddu as representatives of CSU Sanchez Mira Campus are JB Prince Sharief B. Panelo from the College of Hospitality Management and Ryan Jay A. Grande from the College of Criminal Justice Education.

The CSU-UTM Exchange Program on Multidisciplinary and SDG-Oriented Research and Development is a collaborative initiative between CSU and UTM that seeks to advance international cooperation in higher education through multidisciplinary research, innovation, sustainable development, academic networking, and intercultural learning.

Under the program, CSU faculty members and students will participate in a one-way inbound mobility program at UTM, where they will engage in laboratory immersion, research networking, academic mentoring, cultural immersion, community-based learning, and projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Baddu’s participation highlights the role of teacher education leaders in strengthening international academic partnerships, advancing research collaboration, and promoting initiatives that support innovation and sustainable development in higher education.

Through the CSU-UTM partnership, participants are expected to gain meaningful international academic experiences while contributing to knowledge exchange, global engagement, and collaborative research and development initiatives between the two universities.

Dr. Baddu’s international engagement also reflects the strong culture of support within the CSU-SM community, with the CSU-SM Alumni Association amplifying his participation in the international exchange program. Beyond marking a personal academic milestone, his involvement brings pride and recognition to CSU-SM and its alumni community, while highlighting the University Administration’s continuing efforts to provide opportunities for international exposure, academic mobility, research collaboration, and professional development.

LOOK | Putting Student Welfare into Action

Putting student welfare into action, the College of Teacher Education (CTEd) Student Council has acquired 18 stand fans to help improve classroom ventilation, comfort, and the overall learning environment across the college on August 10, 2026.

Led by College Governor Maire Klaire Palting, the initiative is one of the Council’s tangible projects aimed at addressing the day-to-day needs and concerns of CTEd students.

The stand fans will be distributed to designated CTEd classrooms to promote better airflow and provide a more comfortable learning environment for both students and faculty, particularly during classroom activities and periods of warm weather.

More than providing a practical solution, this initiative reflects the CTEd Student Council’s commitment to transforming student-centered plans into concrete and meaningful actions that directly respond to the needs of the college community.

This milestone was made possible through the steadfast guidance and support of Campus Executive Officer Prof. Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, the leadership of College Dean Dr. Verlino D. Baddu, and the dedicated support of the CTEd faculty members.

Together, these efforts demonstrate that when student leaders, administrators, and faculty work hand in hand, meaningful initiatives can create a more comfortable, responsive, and student-centered learning environment.

CTEd conducts leadership seminar, team-building

Through leadership discussions and collaborative team-building activities, the College of Teacher Education (CTEd) of Cagayan State University–Sanchez Mira Campus strengthened the leadership, teamwork, and service skills of its student leaders, volunteers, and other participants during the “Empowering Student Leaders: A Leadership Training and Team-Building Activity” on August 7 at the new campus gymnasium.

CTEd Dean Dr. Verlino D. Baddu urged the participants to make the most of the training by embracing leadership with humility, cooperation, and dedication, emphasizing that the activity was an opportunity to develop both their character and capacity as future educators and leaders.

“Today, you are not here just to waste the day. You are here for a good reason,” Baddu said.

Delivering the inspirational message on behalf of Campus Executive Officer Prof. Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA) Dean Rey D. Viloria emphasized that genuine leadership is rooted in service, compassion, and integrity rather than titles or recognition.

The seminar featured Mr. Christian J. Lazaro, President of the Claveria Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, who discussed Stress Management and Building Support Systems for Youth Leaders, and Mr. Patrick Dale L. Umangay, OSWD Coordinator and GAD Focal Person, who delivered a lecture on Gender-Responsive Leadership.

In the afternoon, participants took part in team-building activities designed to reinforce the lessons from the seminar by promoting communication, trust, and cooperation. Divided into teams named after Greek gods and goddesses, they competed in various station-based challenges, with the Hades Team emerging as the overall champion after earning the highest cumulative score.

CTEd Student Leaders take oath

Newly elected student leaders of the College of Teacher Education (CTEd) formally assumed their positions during a campus-wide oath-taking ceremony held at the New Gymnasium on July 22, 2026.

Campus Executive Officer Prof. Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, Ph.D. and Atty. Jan Leandro P. Verzon administered the oath of office to the newly elected officers of various clubs, councils, and organizations.

The inductees included officers of the Campus Student Council (CSC), college councils, class organizations, and specialized organizations such as THE GENERALIST, YOLO, COSMIC, KAMFIL, MISO, PSTO, CTEd KAYAW and CTEs Sports.

In his message, CEO Alegado reminded the student leaders that integrity builds trust, empathy builds unity, courage builds resilience, humility builds respect, and vision builds progress.

“These values are not ornaments; they are the very pillars of leadership. Together, they form the weight and worth of a leader who serves not for recognition but for transformation,” He said.

He further reminded the newly inducted officers of the broader responsibility that comes with leadership.

“My dear student leaders, as you take your oath today, remember that you are not just leaders of organizations or of your colleges. You are leaders of lives. You are entrusted with the hopes of your peers, the spirit of the campus, and the promise of tomorrow. Lead with courage, serve with humility, and inspire with vision,” he added.

Campus Academic Coordinator Prof. Dr. Allan O. De La Cruz, also emphasized that true leadership is demonstrated through responsible actions rather than titles.

Quoting management consultant Peter Drucker, De La Cruz said, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” He also cited leadership expert John Maxwell, saying, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

CSC President Godfrey Penn G. Reyes delivered his inaugural address, in which he pledged to promote open collaboration and implement student-centered programs and projects.

CTEd launches COCO LEARN Project

To strengthen Literacy and Community Learning in Brgy. Marzan, the College of Teacher Education (CTEd) of Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira Campus officially launched the COCO LEARN Project during its Project Introduction and Clientele Orientation Meeting on July 18, 2026, at the Barangay Hall of C. Marzan, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.

The extension initiative aims to address learning challenges among children and youth in coconut-farming communities through literacy, numeracy, academic support, and community-based learning interventions, bringing together barangay officials, teachers, parents, and learners to strengthen collaboration and establish a shared commitment toward the successful implementation of the project.

During his message, Dr. Verlino D. Baddu, Dean of the College of Teacher Education, expressed his appreciation to Brgy. Captain Jeoffrey Obispo, the Barangay Council of Marzan, C. Marzan Elementary School, teachers, parents, and community members for their support and warm acceptance of the project.

Dr. Baddu emphasized that COCO LEARN is more than a community activity, but a manifestation of CSU CTEd’s commitment to bringing meaningful educational services closer to the people.

He stressed that improving children’s learning abilities requires the collective effort of schools, families, and the community.

“Ti edukasyon ket saan laeng a responsibilidad dagiti mannursuru… agtitinnulung tayo nga parang-ayen dagiti abilidad dagiti annaktayo.”

He also explained that COCO LEARN was developed to improve learners’ reading, writing, and numeracy skills while connecting the program to the community’s coconut industry. He noted that Sanchez Mira’s identity as a coconut-producing municipality inspired the integration of coconut-based learning activities into the extension project.

The project consists of two major components - COCOBUILDERS and COCO SCHOLARS.

COCO BUILDERS (Coconut Community Outreach: Building Understanding, Independence, Literacy Development, Educational Readiness, and Skills), implemented by the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) program, focuses on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy skills among elementary learners. It aims to provide reading interventions and learning activities that improve children’s educational readiness and basic skills.

Meanwhile, COCO SCHOLARS (Community-Oriented Coaching and Outreach for Scholastic Advancement, Leadership, and Academic Reinforcement Services), led by the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program, provides academic enrichment and support for high school and out-of-school youth by promoting study habits, leadership, and continuous learning.

Following the project orientation, participants proceeded to parallel sessions designed according to the needs of different beneficiaries. Learners under the elementary level participated in reading intervention sessions focused on developing literacy skills, while high school and out-of-school youth engaged in sessions on developing study habits to strengthen academic performance. Parents also took part in the “Helping Children Learn at Home” session, which emphasized their role in supporting their children’s learning journey.

The sessions were facilitated by CTEd faculty members and fourth year BEED and BSED sudents who guided participants through activities aimed at building stronger learning foundations and encouraging active involvement from families and the community.

Brgy. Captain Jeoffrey Obispo also expressed his gratitude for CSU’s initiative, recognizing the importance of the partnership between the university and the barangay.

“Dakkel a banag kanyatayu daytoy ta immay da pay indanunen kanyatayu dagiti pagsayaatan.”

He emphasized that continued cooperation among CSU, the barangay, and community stakeholders would contribute to the progress and development of Sanchez Mira.

Through COCO LEARN, CSU-Sanchez Mira Campus and the College of Teacher Education reaffirmed their commitment to creating sustainable educational support programs that empower learners, strengthen families, and build stronger communities.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀' 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝘈 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘌𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴

The College of Teacher Education warmly welcomed parents and guardians of 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐝 and 𝐁𝐒𝐄𝐝 students to an important gathering held on July 13, 2026, at the New Gymnasium, CSU–Sanchez Mira Campus.

The meeting served as a venue to discuss key updates on the deployment of pre-service teachers for Field Study 1 and Field Study 2 this first semester, as well as essential preparations for Student Internship (Practice Teaching) in the second semester — including guidelines, schedules, and partner schools for deployment.

Through this initiative, the College reaffirmed its commitment to keeping parents informed and involved as their children took on the next steps toward becoming future educators. Their continued support and partnership remain vital in molding competent and dedicated teachers for our communities.
