Emptying my cup, unraveling deeper LIS mysteries, and conquering another doctoral degree. 💪🫡

As someone in Library and Information Science, I found serving as a research judge especially meaningful because it reminded me that LIS is inherently multidisciplinary. While these studies were beyond my immediate specialization, I could still contribute by examining how clearly the problem was framed, how sound the methods were, and how well the conclusions were supported by evidence. At the same time, I learned a great deal from the presenters and my fellow judges.

Congratulations to all the presenters, especially those in Theme 3. Your studies showed relevance, diversity, and real potential for community impact. My main encouragement is simple: keep your conclusions faithful to your methods and data, and never be afraid to acknowledge limitations, because doing so reflects research maturity.

Kudos to the City College of Cagayan de Oro for another meaningful breakthrough in advancing multidisciplinary research! ^_^

Now happening: 3rd Higalaay Multidisciplinary Research Festival, organized by City College of Cagayan de Oro. I am one of the research judges here and also represent Negros Oriental State University.

It's great to see this local college evolving and climbing international rankings! ^_^

Grateful for the opportunity to be of service and share my expertise as a Review Master for Information Technology for the Librarians Licensure Examination takers in Negros Island. This was made possible through the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.- Negros Island Region Librarians Council.

It is a privilege to contribute to the preparation of our future librarians and support them on their journey toward becoming licensed professionals.

And the learning continues! Next week, I’ll be back as their Review Master for Library Organization and Management. Looking forward to another meaningful and productive review session! ☺️

If Floridi, Bates, Capurro & Hjorland, and Shannon were my classmates/workmates:

Floridi: “Jolo, is that information true?”

Bates: “Before anything else, organize and retrieve it properly.”

Capurro & Hjorland: “But does it make sense to students, researchers, and librarians?”

Shannon: “As long as the signal gets through, I’m done here.” 😂

Meanwhile, me: running from the library, BLIS classes, research, reclassification, professional development endeavors, and DLIS assignments, while suddenly questioning whether everything I handle every day is actually "information." 🤯

Apparently, being a librarian was not enough. Now I have to philosophize about the information I organize too. 😂

As an LIS Educator, it is difficult to inspire future librarians and information professionals to become catalysts for academic excellence, research and development, and community success if we are not striving to embody those ideals ourselves.

We must always practice what we preach. Anyone can be an educator, but being an LIS Educator carries a deeper responsibility. It means continuously learning, growing, contributing to the profession, engaging in research, and making a meaningful impact, not only teaching students what they need to know, but also showing them what they can become.

I am not saying that I have already become that person in every sense. I am still learning, evolving, and working on myself every day. But I am doing my best to become the kind of LIS Educator I want my students to look up to.

Because it is easier to enlighten a student when you are constantly seeking enlightenment yourself. You cannot inspire others to pursue excellence if you are unwilling to pursue it yourself. Ultimately, our greatest lessons may not come from what we teach, but from the person we choose to become while teaching. 🫡

Super busy this August pero for the love of library and information science, laban! God, please grant me more learning and vitality to keep me thriving. 🫡🙌
