According to the data reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the purchasing power of the Philippine peso dropped to its lowest level of ₱0.7519 in March 2026—meaning that 100 pesos now values 75 from 2018 levels—as inflation reached a one-year high of 4.1%. Because inflation inversely erodes currency value over time, goods and services that cost ₱1.00 in 2018 now require significantly more money to buy, leaving consumers with roughly three-fourths of their former buying power.

After a one-year hiatus following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that severely affected Northern Cebu, San Remigio National High School’s flagship English broadcasting team, Prime News Now (PNN), made a triumphant return to the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).

The team brought home two major awards in the annual campus journalism competition held in the Municipality of Carmen, Cebu.

PNN Mobile Journalist Rhiana Carmille Nugas emerged as the Champion in Mobile Journalism–English, besting other contingents with her informational vlog on Manual Load Dropping.

With her victory, Nugas earned a spot in the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2026, which will be held in Tubigon, Bohol, this December.

Meanwhile, PNN’s TV Broadcasting team was recognized for Best in News Script, marking the second time the team has received the distinction after first winning the award in 2025.

The awards mark a meaningful comeback for Prime News Now, which was unable to compete last year as Northern Cebu schools grappled with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
