“SAVE YOUR MONEY” ISN’T ENOUGH.

Teaching your child to save is GOOD.

But financial literacy shouldn’t stop there.

What happens after they’ve saved?

Can they make a budget?

Do they understand investing?

Do they know how money can grow?

Do they understand risk?

Can they distinguish a real opportunity from something that’s simply too good to be true?

Can they make money decisions based on goals instead of impulses?

“Save your money.”

Great lesson.

It’s just not the whole lesson.

WILL YOUR TEENAGER NEED FINANCIAL LITERACY?

That’s probably the better question.

Not:

“Does my teenager want to attend a financial literacy workshop?”

Because if we asked most 13-year-olds what they wanted to do...

Learning about money probably wouldn’t beat gaming, hanging out with friends, or scrolling on their phones. 😂

And that’s okay.

They haven’t received a salary yet.

They haven’t had to budget for bills.

They haven’t watched thousands of pesos disappear because of one bad financial decision.

They don’t feel the need yet because Mom and Dad are still carrying most of the financial responsibility.

But will they need these skills?

Absolutely.

Someday, they’ll earn their own money.
They’ll encounter investments.
They’ll be offered credit.
They’ll see “opportunities” online.

And eventually, they’ll have to decide what’s wise and what isn’t — without Mom or Dad making every decision for them.

We don’t have to wait until they feel the need.

We can prepare them before they need it.

Because the goal isn’t to raise teenagers obsessed with money.

It’s to raise young adults who know what to do with it.

“I’ll ask my teen first if he/she wants to join.”

We completely understand.

But here’s something worth thinking about:

Would your teen voluntarily ask to learn about budgeting?

Investing?

Managing a salary?

Avoiding debt?

Probably not.

Because at 12, 14, or 16, the consequences of not knowing these things haven’t arrived yet.

For now, food appears on the table. Electricity gets paid. School gets paid. When they want something, they can still ask Mom or Dad.

But eventually, the money decisions become theirs.

Their first salary.
Their first bank account.
Their first credit card.
Their first investment.
And sometimes, their first expensive money mistake.

Financial literacy is one of those things we shouldn’t wait for our children to realize they need.

We teach them before they need it.

One of our Cash Cubs parents recently shared this update with us...

After the workshop, they started using the Save • Invest • Spend • Give jar system at home.

Their daughter began managing money she earned from gifts, singing gigs, and even small services. When their school's Kidspreneur event came, she used her own savings to fund her business.

The best part?

✨ She reached her savings goal and proudly bought the toy she had been working toward.
✨ She still had money left to save, reinvest, and give.
✨ She's now excited to find new ways to grow her money—even asking about selling her baby tooth to the Tooth Fairy! 😄
