Storytime! Before I start this, I want to greet all the teachers, education support and early childhood educators Happy World Teachers’ Day! I want to share how I became a teacher.
When I graduated high school, my goal was to take Commerce and be a Certified Public Accountant. Unfortunately, our family business collapsed. My options started to narrow and I was worried and scared that I was not able to go to school. I prayed and prayed and took action. I went to the Office of the President at the school I graduated high school in and asked for options and suggestions. They offered a scholarship under Mother Ignacia Del Espirito Scholarship but it was for students pursuing the Bachelors in Elementary Education. I decided to take this route so I can go to school. I took the scholarship test and passed for full scholar tuition. I was happy but also sad that I was not able to take Commerce or have alternative options. Nevertheless, I continued this route and found myself in several struggles. I had two pairs of uniforms and black shoes that I alternated weekly. I could not afford the books so I spent a lot of time at the library so I could borrow and use the books needed for my classes. I persevered until I was awarded by the school for general excellence. I used the award to get additional uniforms and books. However, it was still not enough to pay for other expenses- transportation, food, and some of my family's daily needs. So, while going to school, I started working as a secretary of our chaplain. I was 1 point short of being Suma Cum Laude but I am confident that my perseverance and dedication to finish school gave me that one point already. I felt very thankful for the opportunities that my college offered. To my teachers, they have inspired me to be an educator, who not only teaches the required curriculum but to also be inclusive and take into consideration the issues a student might face. With my commitment to education, I did not stop learning. I took my MED in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and earned some Doctoral/Ph.D. units. Although I did not finish, I am content when I see my former students achieve their dreams.
Happy Teachers' Day!

These early learning forums are a way for us to convey, bridge and construct mutual respect and understanding about the differences and similarities of what I learned, experienced and know about Early Childhood Education in Canada to Early Childhood students in the Philippines.

I know there are a lot of women, our unsung heroes, who made and are continuing to make a difference in our community. This award is also for you. Let us all continue to inspire other women to lift each other’s spirits.
------Initial Statement------
I’ve been in so much worries these couple of weeks. Then, this news came, that I am nominated as one of the recipient of Outstanding Women of BC award. All had changed.
I said to myself, someone is overseeing our fears and worries with what’s going on around; putting all our perspective in life. This someone is guiding to nominate me for the OUTSTANDING WOMEN OF B.C. award. I was reminded that we need to support each other to overcome our fears and worries- that we rise by lifting others.
I am so flattered and proud to be the first Filipino who represented the flag of the Philippines and be a part of this advocacy for women.
Again, thank you so much James Wang, Councilor of Burnaby, for nominating me. To the rest of the team, Maria, the President, and to Crystal for the constant communication.
I’m so overwhelmed that my tears cant stop expressing how happy I am to be a part of it.
Mabuhay ang Pilipino!!!
I went to a public school, You went to a private school, but we both ended in the same public high school. We both took the same course. I went to a State college and you went to an expensive private university, but we both end up in the same workplace and receive the same salary. You woke up from a soft bed and I woke up from the floor, but we both had a peaceful night's rest. Your outfits are all expensive, mine are all simple and cheap, but we both still cover our nakedness. You ate fried rice and roasted chicken, I ate locally made food, but we both still ate to our satisfaction. You ride your own car, I took the bus, but we still get to our various destinations. You may be reading this post from your S9, Note9 , iPhone 10 and I typed it with my broken Touch One screen, but we still see the same message.
LIFESTYLE IS NOT A COMPETITION.
There are different ways to get things done, different lanes all leading to the same destination.
JUST BECAUSE YOUR NEIGHBOR IS DOING THINGS FASTER, DOES NOT MEAN YOU'RE FAILING.
HAPPINESS DOESN'T COME FROM HAVING EVERYTHING, BUT MAKING THE BEST OUT OF WHAT YOU HAVE.
IT'S ALL ABOUT HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF.
Happiness is NOT having what you like.
Happiness is LIKING what you have and
BEING CONTENTED.😊
GOD IS THE CENTER OF OUR LIVES.
ENJOY LIFE and WHAT YOU HAVE.
LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!!
