Hands-on Training on Animal Handling Short Course/Lecture/Workshop

The USC Laboratory Animal Facility, in coordination with the USC IACUC, provided training on Basic Animal Manipulation, including Restraint, Handling and Care, Basic Blood Collection, and Basic Routes of Administration for Laboratory Mice and Rats. The lecture and hands-on training were conducted at the USC Laboratory Animal Facility on June 18, 2025. This training was requested by a group of Biology students from Southern Luzon State University, Quezon.
Following the training, the students will proceed with their animal experiments as part of their research projects, which were previously approved by the USC IACUC.

Seminar on Animal Welfare, the IACUC & the Laboratory Animal Facility

It was held on September 04, 2024 at Fr. Robert Hoeppener Hall, University of San Carlos - Talamban Campus.
Dr. Erlah Shermaine L. Roble discussed the overview of USC IACUC, it’s guidelines and protocols. She also discussed about Animal Rights vis-a-vis Animal Welfare.
While Mr. Glen Mark Piañar discussed about the Laboratory Animal Facility guidelines & SOPs and Geillecar C. Bucog discussed on the IACUC Protocol Review Process, it’s Protocol Forms & various documents needed on the application.
It was participated by the USC Pharmacy students & faculty.

BAI reaccredits USC Laboratory Animal Facility | Breeding Facility | IACUC

Last July 25, 2024, USC received the renewed animal welfare registration which is valid until July 11, 2027.
Of the two (2) registered animal facilities in the Visayas and Mindanao region, only USC has the authority to breed rats and mice.
The certification was issued after a BAI Team inspected the University’s facility last July 08, 2024.

It was held on October 25, 2023 at Virtual Training Room, Learning Resource Center, University of San Carlos Talamban Campus as part of the various activities of the University Days.
Dr. Erlah Shermaine L. Roble discussed the overview of USC IACUC, it’s guidelines and protocols. She also discussed about Animal Rights vis-a-vis Animal Welfare.

Olobia (Chairperson, EVHRDC), Ms. Jean Gay O. Ragub (EVHRDC Coordinator), Dr. Ea Clarisse Tulin (VSU, Tuklas Lunas Center), Dr. Harvie Portugaliza (VSU IACUC), Ms. Janeth Morata-Fuentes (Philippine Science High School-EVC), Mr. Nomer Gutierrez (Philippine Science High School-EVC), and Ms. Leslie Joy Calvo (EVHRDC Project Staff).
