“Let it be done to me according to Your word.” — Luke 1:38 🌸🙏

This May, we gather once again in faith, devotion, and service as we officially launch our continuing Community Outreach Program "Mga Bulak kang Maria: A Marian Catechetical Ministry Program for Kids and Parents". The catechetical sessions will be held every Sunday of May from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod, Cebu City.

Inspired by the life and virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, this program invites children to deepen their faith by following Mary’s example of humility, obedience, courage, and complete trust in God. Through catechesis, prayer, Marian reflections, and meaningful activities, we hope to guide young hearts closer to Jesus through the loving guidance of our Blessed Mother.

Following the success of Giya ni Pedro, this COP initiative, in partnership with the USJR SHS Christian Life Formation Cluster and alumni community, continues our shared mission of forming Christ-centered places while empowering our young catechists and volunteers to become living witnesses of faith, service, and love.

For donations, preferably school supplies, please visit the SHS office.

To Jesus, through Mary! 🌷✨

#𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 | TJPeeps emerge victorious at CIT-U Press Fest ‘26

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Josenian Premier (TJP), marked a memorable event of ink and insight as they clinched several awards in the 2026 Cebu Institute of Technology - University (CIT-U) Press Fest, organized by its official student publication, The Technologian, on April 26.

TJP bagged a triple podium finish in the News Writing Category, where Prospero John Amores IV emerged as the champion, followed by Jasmine Abigail Lim as 1st Runner-Up and Josh Philip Valencia as 2nd Runner-Up.

Another champion placement was also achieved by Samantha Kate Hiluano in the Editorial Writing category.

For Amores, the win came despite an unexpected challenge of lacking information and fact sheets during the contest proper.

“Prior to the competition, we thought we would be provided a fact sheet to embed in our writing. But as the competition started, we realized that we wouldn’t be given any. So I relied on what I could remember during the opening remarks and from the schedule given to us,” he said.

As for Lim, the pressure of on-the-spot writing and the caliber of fellow campus journalists pushed her to rethink her craft and shift her perspective.

“The contest made me realize that campus journalism is more than just what it seems. It is actually something that you venture out of your comfort zone to produce the best output that you can give. Moreover, it is more about serving the people or the society by providing factual and objective information and also giving them a new and fresh perspective to other issues and matters.” she remarked.

Despite initial uncertainty, Valencia stood firm in his journalistic skills, supported by his mentors and TJP advisers, Mark Kenly Oray and Ella Mae Ligue after joining the event.

“I was hesitant to join a competition and initially planned to attend Press Fest only for the seminar. However, our TJP advisers, Sir Ken and Ms. Ella, encouraged us to test our limits, so I tried news writing for the first time. Through that experience, I learned that it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.”

Hiluano’s milestone reflects her growth as a writer in campus journalism. “My editorial voice is shaped by a mix of lived experiences, the realities within my campus, and the people I work with in journalism. Being part of The Josenian Premier has exposed me to different perspectives, which constantly challenge me to think deeper and write with more purpose,” she attested.

With notable victories from the CIT-U Press Fest, TJPeeps proved that courage, preparation, and purpose fuel campus journalism—reaffirming their commitment to telling stories that inform, challenge, and inspire.

#𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 | USJ-R SHS STEMmer bags silver in StemCo Math tilt, secures ticket to Global Finals '26

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Sophia Alesandra Olano, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand student of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Senior High School Department (USJ-R SHS) clinched a silver medal in the StemCo Global Math Olympiad National Round Competition, April 28, via StemCo online platform.

Taking a leap beyond her comfort zone, she participated in the competition as a means to explore the Singaporean curriculum and test her abilities, describing it as a “big challenge” for its difference from the Philippine curriculum.

She shared that engaging with the program exposed her to pressure and self-doubt upon seeing the practice sets. But it ultimately pushed her to gradually unravel her understanding of the subject beyond just numbers.

“I've always believed that Math was never meant to be a source of anxiety, rather, it was meant to be a tool for us to wonder and I have always seen Math as a space where I am free to explore, learn, and eventually soar its vastness," she said.

Her win, however, wasn’t shaped by prior experience but rooted in her strong belief and her parents' constant support.

“I joined mostly for the experience of trying out the Singaporean curriculum, so I wasn’t expecting to be given a seat for the Global Finals,” she said.

“I didn't really tell anyone about the competition except for my parents, [as] they were the ones who supported me and helped me prepare through the whole process," she added.

Olano also extended her gratitude to the USJ-R SHS Math and Engineering Cluster Academic Chairman Rona Mae Banlasan for being her inspiration in the competition.

"To Miss Rona, she has always been the reason I push beyond what I'm capable of to explore and learn so many things. I’m truly grateful! [sic]"

With her silver finish in the StemCo Global Math Olympiad National Round, Olano advances to the Global Finals in Singapore this June, marking a step forward in her journey beyond local boundaries and into the international stage.
