In solidarity with the American Council of Learned Societies, we join the call to recognize the vital work of the humanities and social sciences in helping us understand and respond to the most urgent challenges of our time.

We need more English language specialists because they are essential to confronting disinformation, making government communication more intelligible, widening access to education, upholding epistemic justice, decolonizing English, and shaping technologies that recognize rather than erase our identities.

She holds an M.A. in Rhetoric & Composition from NC State University and is currently a doctoral student in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media, where her dissertation investigates how neurodivergent academic writers use and manage chatbots in their composing processes.

Her research interests span AI literacy pedagogy, digital writing technologies, and writing studies in the age of generative AI. Her recent work includes a forthcoming chapter in Writing Spaces on introducing AI tools to first-year writers and co-authored work on reflective multimodal feedback practices. She has presented at the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) and Computers & Writing on topics including student agency in AI-mediated writing, the history of writing technologies, and pedagogical responses to generative AI in U.S. writing classrooms. She also serves on NC State's First-Year Writing Program AI Writing Task Force, where she helps shape institutional policy on AI and digital communication in undergraduate writing instruction.

This session will explore how writing, communication, and rhetoric are evolving in the age of digital media and artificial intelligence, offering insights into current research and teaching practices in U.S. writing classrooms.

Beyond the Birds and the Bees: Language, S*x, and Social Responsibility

Words shape understandingโ€”and silence shapes ignorance.
In our ACLE, we moved past euphemisms, unpacked the language of s*x, examined real statistics, and confronted how meaning is constructed (and distorted) in everyday discourse.

Because in linguistics, we know this:
when people cannot name things accurately, they cannot understand themโ€”and when educators shy away from precise language, misinformation quietly takes their place.

Conversations like these are not optional. They are necessary.

Now under the College of Arts and Sciences, the SAS International Guest Lecture Series of Isabela State University - Cauayan City Campus continues with two upcoming sessions featuring scholars from NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

๐„๐ฉ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ž ๐Ÿ‘ will feature Bethany Van Scooter, whose work focuses on digital rhetoric, writing studies, and AI in writing instruction. Her research explores how emerging technologies, including chatbots, are shaping writing practices, student learning, and communication in contemporary academic contexts.

๐„๐ฉ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ž ๐Ÿ’ will feature Professor Anne Collins McLaughlin, who will deliver a lecture on human factors and applied experimental psychology. The session will examine how research on human capabilities and limitations informs the design of technologies and environments to improve safety, performance, and user experience, with real-world examples and insights into career pathways in the field.

Through these lectures, the series continues to provide students and faculty with direct access to current international research, interdisciplinary perspectives, and meaningful academic exchange.

We invite students, faculty members, and partner institutions to join us in these upcoming sessions.
