SSU Kicks Off Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit to Reinforce Excellence and Continuous Improvement

Samar State University thru the University Quality Assurance Office officially launched its Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit today, May 11, 2026 marking the beginning of a four-day institutional undertaking that will run until May 14. The audit serves as a significant initiative in evaluating and strengthening the effectiveness of the university’s Quality Management System (QMS).

Anchored on the principles of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence, the internal audit underscores the university’s steadfast commitment to delivering quality education and responsive public service. More than a compliance-driven activity, the IQA is viewed as a meaningful opportunity for institutional growth, process enhancement, and organizational development.

The audit activities are led by competent and dedicated Team Leaders across the university’s campuses: Engr. H**e C. Uy (Main Campus), Mr. Jake Boy D. Carbonquillo (Mercedes Campus), and Engr. Flory Jean A. Loreño (Paranas Campus). Their leadership plays a crucial role in ensuring that audit processes are conducted objectively, systematically, and constructively.

In his opening message, SSU University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture grounded in integrity and accountability. “What we tolerate becomes our culture,” Dr. Palencia remarked in his opening message, highlighting the responsibility of every university personnel to model practices worthy of emulation. He also encouraged auditees to remain receptive to observations and recommendations raised during the audit process, stressing that these insights are essential in improving institutional processes and advancing the university’s overall performance.

As the Phase 1 Internal Quality Audit progresses, SSU continues to demonstrate its dedication to sustaining quality standards and fostering a culture of excellence that benefits both the institution and the stakeholders it serves.

November 17, 2025-- The Samar State University community held another remarkable event as it conducted a Management Review after the 2nd Internal Quality Audit. The event was attended by the University President, Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, Vice Presidents Dr. Felisa E. Gomba (Academic Affairs), Engr. Mirador G. Labrador (Research and Extension Service), and Dr. Gina U. Españo (Student Affairs and Services). Also present were the Deans, Campus Directors, Unit Heads, and other Process Owners.

The event highlighted salient features from the Previous Management Review, followed by the IQA reports of the Team Leaders. The IQA Report for the Main Campus was delivered by Engr. H**e C. Uy; for the Mercedes Campus, it was delivered by Dr. Nicolas O. Boco; and for the Paranas Campus, it was delivered by Ms. Joan J. Baclay. After the said presentations, the event also revisited the issues raised during the Recertification Visit, together with other observations. Moreover, the Supply Officer and the Director for Infrastructure and Development Office presented the performance of suppliers.
The event ended with a closing message given by the University President, as he highlighted the importance of the activity in ensuring quality service delivered by Samar State University.

Samar State University (SSU) once again demonstrated its spirited pursuit of quality and teamwork during the three-day ISO 9001:2015 2nd Phase Internal Quality Audit, held from October 27 to 29, 2025. Organized by the Quality Assurance Office, the audit united key leaders, internal auditors, and stakeholders in a series of collaborative virtual and face-to-face sessions aimed at upholding international standards and strengthening the university’s service culture.The opening program radiated energy as University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia welcomed participants, followed by Director Jake Boy D. Carbonquillo’s detailed explanation of the goals and processes behind the audit.Audit team leaders Engr. H**e C. Uy, Dr. Nicolas O. Boco, and Ms. Joan J. Baclay were introduced, setting a tone of partnership across the main and satellite campuses. The event underscored the role of teamwork and integrity in driving quality at SSU. Throughout the assessment, participants engaged in reflective discussions, honest feedback, and supportive dialogue to review university processes and celebrate continuous improvement.The closing ceremony on October 29 recognized the efforts of everyone involved, with a message of commitment from Dr. Palencia and a closing message from Vice President Engr. Ma. Lourdes P. Amante, concluding the audit with a renewed sense of pride and unity in SSU’s commitment to quality education and service. By embracing a culture of collaboration and excellence, SSU continues to lead the way in quality assurance, ensuring its community remains resilient and future-ready.

Ensuring Quality in SSU!

Currently, the University Quality Assurance Office is facilitating the COPC validation visit for the PhD in Technology Management (PhD-TM) and the Bachelor of Science in Architecture programs.

Present at the event are the University President, Dr. Redentor Palencia; the Vice President for Academic Affairs and concurrent Program Chairperson of PhD-TM, Dr. Felisa Gomba ; the OIC-Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Lanie Pacadaljen; the OIC-Dean of the College of Industrial Technology, Mr. Ronnie Ronie Velasco ; the Director of the University Quality Assurance Office, Mr. Jake Boy Carbonquillo; along with other QA Coordinators and faculty members of the programs undergoing validation.

From the Commission on Higher Education, the event is being attended by Dr. Catherine Iglesias, Engr. Nelly Labrada, RQAT members, and the Technical Panel from the OPSD.

The event is scheduled to continue until this afternoon.

On the second day of the Internal Quality Audit, the team conducted audits at Samar State University's two external campuses. The IQA team received a warm welcome from Dr. Lourdes Delmonte, Director of SSU Paranas Campus, and Assoc. Prof. Jerson Sorio, OIC-Campus Director of SSU Mercedes Campus. Ms. Joan J. Baclay headed the IQA Paranas Team, while Dr. Nicolas O. Boco headed the IQA Mercedes Team.
