Samar State University (SSU) partnered with DENR-CENRO Catbalogan in conducting the Student Internship Program Exit Conference, participated in by student interns, faculty coordinators, internship supervisors, and partner agency representatives in celebration of the successful completion of the students’ On-the-Job Training journey.

The program highlighted the trainees’ accomplishments, experiences, and learnings gained throughout their internship, as they shared reflections and insights from their deployment and industry exposure.

In lieu of the Director of the Student Internship Program, the College of Arts and Sciences Internship Focal Person, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗩. 𝗣𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲, expressed her gratitude to the partner agency for continuously supporting experiential learning opportunities for students.

Also present during the program was the PIC of BS Information Technology, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗕. 𝗘𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲, who congratulated the interns for their dedication, hard work, and successful completion of the internship program.

The DENR-CENRO Exit Conference served not only as a culmination activity but also as a testament to the strong partnership between SSU and DENR-CENRO Catbalogan in fostering professional growth, practical learning, and community engagement among students.

Happening now at Samar State University–Mercedes Campus, the Student Internship Program (SIP) Orientation brings together BS Fisheries and BS Marine Biology students as they prepare for their professional journey.

The program is currently opened by the first speaker, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐉. 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐈𝐏, who is sharing valuable insights on internship expectations, workplace readiness, and professional standards. His discussion sets the tone as students gear up for real-world marine and fisheries environments.

Indeed, the journey beyond the classroom has begun—anchored on knowledge, driven by passion, and ready to make waves in the industry.

𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗨𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 💼🧰

The College of Engineering held its 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, in Room 205 of the College of Engineering building. Guided by the principle of “no orientation, no internship,” the seminar prepared BSCE, BSEE, and BSECE students for the challenges of their upcoming internships. The activity reflected the university’s commitment to discipline and excellence, requiring students to undergo proper preparation before entering professional practice.

Followed by attendance recognition of the internship candidates by the
Program Internship Coordinators (PICs):

• 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐍𝐨𝐞𝐥 𝐒. 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 represented Engr. Aprille Ellen E. Quebada for Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
• 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐤𝐨 𝐀𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐏. 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 stood in for Engr. Francis Jerric A. Candido for BSECE, and
• 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐁. 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐬 was present for BSEE.

Dean 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐞 𝐂. 𝐔𝐲 then delivered her opening remarks/welcome message, emphasizing that internships serve as the bridge between classroom learning and professional practice. She encouraged students to embrace the opportunity with responsibility and enthusiasm, underscoring the value of leadership in taking initiative and setting an example in the workplace.

The central part of the orientation was the discussion of internship guidelines and expectations by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐉. 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐉𝐫., Student Internship (SIP) Director. His talk clarified the responsibilities of interns and the standards they must uphold, instilling discipline and professionalism as essential qualities for success.

This was followed by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐑. 𝐐𝐮𝐢ñ𝐚, Director of SAGWAN, who discussed basic GAD concepts in relation to internships and workplace scenarios. Her session provided practical awareness of inclusivity, respect, and sexual harassment prevention, reminding students that true service includes fostering safe and respectful environments for all.

A certificate of appreciation and a token were awarded to Dir. Quiña, in recognition of her invaluable contribution.

Closing remarks were delivered by Engr. Palomas, on behalf of BSCE PIC, expressing gratitude to the organizers, contributors, and attendees. The orientation highlighted the collective effort of faculty and staff in guiding students toward excellence in both academic and professional endeavors.

The orientation concluded with photo opportunities, capturing the excitement and unity of the engineering community.

More than preparation, the orientation marked the students’ first step into professional practice, firmly grounded in the university’s core values of leadership, excellence, discipline, and service.

The SSU Paranas Campus successfully conducted the Student Internship Program (SIP) Orientation 2026 under the leadership of 𝑫𝒓. 𝑳𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝑪. 𝑫𝒆𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒆 (SSU Paranas Campus Director), with support from the Student Internship Program (SIP) Office.

Key discussions during the program included orientation and workshop on OJT forms, SIP policies and requirements, monitoring and evaluation, workplace safety and health practices, anti-sexual harassment awareness, communication skills, respect for diversity, and the development of proper workplace values.

This initiative highlights the strong collaboration between SSU Paranas Campus and the SIP Office in preparing students to become competent, responsible, and industry-ready professionals.

The College of Industrial Technology – Culinary Technology Program successfully conducted its International Internship Orientation in partnership with RCC Staffing Solution USA Corporation on April 20, 2026, at the CAS Audio Visual Center.

This significant activity marked an important step in preparing our students for global opportunities, equipping them with essential knowledge, expectations, and inspiration as they embark on their international internship journey.

𝑫𝒓. 𝑮𝒊𝒍 𝑶. 𝑨𝒎𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒏, Dean of CIT, warmly welcomed everyone and emphasized that “experience is the best teacher,” encouraging students to embrace real-world learning beyond the classroom.

𝑴𝒓. 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑩. 𝑪𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒐, College Internship Focal Person (CIFP), delivered the Acknowledgement of Participants, recognizing the presence and support of all stakeholders while highlighting the importance of the program in shaping globally competitive culinary professionals.

𝑫𝒓. 𝑱𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒏 𝑱. 𝑹𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒓., Director of the Student Internship Program, further emphasized that this opportunity is an investment in the students’ future, opening doors to international careers with strong potential for employment abroad.

𝑴𝒔. 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑹𝑪𝑪 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑼𝑺𝑨 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 discussed the J1 Internship Program requirements, encouraging students to begin with securing their passport, as the first step toward their global journey. She also shared inspiring success stories of culinary interns deployed in various hotels across the United States and assured students of RCC’s continuous support and care throughout the program.

The activity also featured an engaging Open Forum, allowing students to clarify concerns and deepen their understanding of the program.

Closing remarks were given by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒄𝒂 𝑷. 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒂𝒍, Program Internship Coordinator (PIC), expressed sincere appreciation to RCC, the organizers, faculty members, and students for making the event a success.

Samar State University successfully convened the Program Internship Coordinators (PICs) and College/Campus Internship Focal Persons (CIFPs) to strengthen the implementation of the Student Internship Program in alignment with CHED policies.

The meeting highlighted key institutional directions focusing on quality, compliance, and stronger academe–industry linkages.

ACTION STEPS:
- Centralization of MOA and records for better tracking and accountability
- Strict enforcement of compliance requirements (with streamlined forms aligned to ARTA)
- Strengthened monitoring system through active engagement of PICs and CIFPs
- Expansion of industry partnerships (local, national, and international)
- Enhanced student preparation programs focusing on discipline, work ethics, and communication skills
- Alignment of curriculum and internship outcomes to ensure relevant and meaningful training

INNOVATION & IMPROVEMENT FOCUS:
- Promote external industry immersion
- Utilize digital systems and social media for partnerships and coordination
- Integrate research and extension opportunities
- Continuous review of prospectus and program design to meet industry demands
