Sir Alvin Lim and Sir Rage Calera taught important first aid skills, such as how to help a person who is choking, how to respond to respiratory arrest, and how to treat shock and bleeding by using bandaging techniques.The students practiced these life-saving techniques and learned how to stay calm and act quickly during emergencies. Knowing what to do in these situations can help save lives, especially during accidents or disasters. This training gave the student nurses more confidence and prepared them to handle real-life emergencies with care and skill.

The session started with Ma'am Algen introducing the Red Cross โ its mission, vision, and the important role it plays in helping people during emergencies. Afterward, Sir Alvin Lim and Sir Rage Calera discussed First Aid, Basic Life Support, and the Emergency Action Principles. They also taught the students how to perform CPR and respond quickly and properly during emergencies. It was a very productive day for our student nurses. They learned essential skills that will help them save lives during accidents, disasters, and medical emergencies. With this training, they are now more prepared and confident to step up and help others when needed.

Catarman, Northern Samar โ Level IV nursing students at CSLRM demonstrated their emergency response skills during an Earthquake and Fire Drill held on April 22, 2025, at the school grounds.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer led by Kyndra Llazer, followed by the National Anthem and School Hymn. Dr. Maria Lynne C. Parambita, Dean of the Nursing Department, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with hands-on disaster response experience.
The drill featured valuable talks from FSINP Victor C. Ygbuhay, RME, MMPA, who shared insights on emergency management.
Moreover, BFP personnel FO1 Norman Acebuche and FO3 Tim Kenneth U. Bolosiรฑ discussed essential fire prevention measures. Following the informative sessions, nursing students executed a realistic earthquake simulation and fire drill, which included a search and rescue operation, demonstrating their ability to handle crisis situations effectively.
The program concluded with an evaluation session, recognizing the efforts and dedication of participants. Certificates were awarded to acknowledge their contributions to the initiative.
In his closing remarks, Ralph Baรฑez commended the students for their unwavering commitment to safety and emergency preparedness, highlighting the importance of proactive disaster response training.

The Nursing Training Office of Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) successfully hosted a General Virtual Orientation for Level II nursing students from Colegio de San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila, Northern Samar, Inc., today Friday, April 11, 2025.
The program began with an opening prayer and was followed by an introduction to the EVMC institution, led by Assistant Chief Nurse for Clinical Services, Sir Alfon Guiller Daga, RN, MAN, DM, Nurse IV.
During the session, students were oriented on the hospitalโs Vision, Mission, Goals, Objectives, Core Values, Quality Policy, and Strategic Roadmap through the Performance Governance System (PGS).
Additionally, the orientation covered the duties and responsibilities of student nurses in clinical areas and the general and personnel policies of the Nursing Service.
Sir Alfon also introduced the EVMC leadership team, which includes Dr. Joseph Michael A. Jaro, MD, FPCP, FPCC, Medical Center Chief II, along with Chief Nurse III Lorna G. Belizar, RN, MAN, CNM, Assistant Chief Nurse for Training and Research Lea P. Demetria, RN, MAN, CNM, and Assistant Chief Nurse for Special Care Areas Pio Julio Dela Cruz Jr., RN, MAN, CNM.
The event was attended by the Dean of the Nursing Department, Dr. Maria Lynne C. Parambita, clinical instructors, and the Level II nursing students.
EVMC Nursing Training Office continues to play a crucial role in guiding and preparing future nursing professionals as they embark on their clinical practice.
This orientation served as a vital platform for students to understand their roles and responsibilities within the clinical setting and to align themselves with the values and policies of the EVMC Nursing Service.

Level II Student Nurses have successfully completed the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Training at Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) on April 8, 2025.
During the afternoon session, Dra. Clara Roza Brit, M.D., a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, highlighted the vital role of infection prevention in safeguarding both patients and healthcare workers, particularly in obstetric and gynecologic settings.
Ms. Lorraine Belle G. Belizar, RN, MAN, conducted the third session titled "Surveillance and Safety of Healthcare Workers," where she tackled occupational injuries such as needlestick and splash incidents, emphasizing their significant impact on healthcare safety.
โThe Role of Nurses in Antimicrobial Stewardshipโ was presented by Ms. Andressa Mae P. Chavez, RN, who elaborated on the critical responsibilities of nurses in ensuring proper medication management and combating antimicrobial resistance.
Meanwhile, Ms. Cherryl Martinez, RN, led the fifth session, "Lowering HAIs: Care Bundles in Infection Prevention and Control," which deepened understanding of care bundles as effective tools in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
A hands-on session on the proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was facilitated by Ms. Julie Yago, RN, MM, and the IPC Team. This practical exercise stressed the importance of PPE in infection prevention and healthcare worker safety.
"My warmest gratitude goes to the EVMC/IPC team for sharing their expertise on clinical sterility. By simply practicing hand hygiene, we can save patients' lives," expressed Mr. Mark Stephen Legarse.
The said training emphasized the value of IPC education in equipping future nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to protect public health and ensure patient safety.

๐๐๐๐|| Nurse Catherine Cadavis, RN, IDN at the EVMC IPC, presented the second topic focusing on "Environmental Care for Infection Prevention and Control in Healthcare Facilities."
Ms. Cadavis emphasized the critical role of properly sanitized equipment in minimizing the spread of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
She stressed that cleaning and infection control must go hand in hand, noting that disinfection cannot reach its full effectiveness without cleaning first. Therefore, cleaning must precede disinfection and sterilization.
As part of her discussion, she introduced the concept of "Color Coding Cleaning Equipment" to facilitate easy identification of various cleaning materials.
The overall goal of IPC practices is to eliminate the risk of pathogen transmission between patients and healthcare workers (HCWs).

Ms. Yago emphasized that hand hygiene is the primary line of defense in healthcare environments, playing a pivotal role in preventing hospital-acquired infections (HAI) and safeguarding patient health.
She further outlined the objectives of the World Health Organizationโs (WHO) Safety Program, aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections globally.
In addition, Ms. Yago provided a comprehensive discussion on the WHO guidelines for hand hygiene practices in healthcare settings.

EVMC, Tacloban Cityโ The second batch of second-year nursing students from Colegio de San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila, Incorporated, is actively participating in the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Seminar. The event is organized by the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) IPC team and is currently taking place at the EVMC Main Conference Room today, Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The orientation program commenced with an opening prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the EVMC hymn, setting a formal and respectful tone for the event.
Nursing students not only gain insights into critical protocols but also develop their confidence and competence in ensuring safety in healthcare settings.
