The municipality of Carmen suspended classes for tomorrow, February 4, due to tropical depression "Basyang" in all levels, public and private.

Through a facebook post, Carmen Mayor Carlo T. Villamor announced the suspension of classes.

Villamor further reminded the public to be safe, avoid needless trips, and stay informed through official reports.

"We advise everyone to stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain updated through official announcements."

Basyang is expected to move westward toward eastern Mindanao from Wednesday to Thursday afternoon.

NEWS | Carmen suspends classes following local Sinulog festivities

Classes for January 26, 2026 in Carmen, Cebu are suspended for all public schools in all levels following the celebration of the Sinulog sa Carmen Festival.

Carmen Municipal Mayor, Carlo T. Villamor ordered suspension of classes to give an ample of time for student participants to rest after the week-end long celebration.

"This will give students time to rest and get ready for the week ahead. Whether you're going to watch, cheer on your friends, or simply enjoy the festivities, I hope everyone has a fun and safe celebration", said the Mayor in his Facebook post today.

Ang desisyong ito ay bunsod ng malaking bilang ng mga mag-aaral na lumahok sa Sinulog Festival 2026, upang mabigyan sila ng sapat na oras na makapagpahinga at makauwi nang ligtas matapos ang pagdiriwang.

Kasabay nito, ipinagkaloob din ang compensatory day off sa mga empleyado ng Kapitolyo na nagtrabaho noong kasagsagan ng pagdiriwang.

First tropical storm of the year—"Ada" prompted class suspension in Carmen in all levels, public and private, today.

In a facebook post, Carlo T. Villamor, mayor of Carmen issued a public advisory on the suspension of classes due to "unfavorable weather condition."

Mayor Villamor also expressed that the public avoid unnecessary travel, exercise caution and be informed by official announcements.

"We advise everyone to stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain updated through official announcements."

According to the Visayas Pagasa Regional Services Divison (Visayas PRDS) light to moderate and occasionally heavy rainfall are brought about by the tropical storm.

𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙤 𝙍𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙤, Bidlisiw's Editorial Cartoonist bagged 𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟱.

Relampago has been in Bidlisiw for over three years, serving as their Editorial Cartoonist— consistently representing the school in the DSPC.

With his dedication and passion in turning current issues into art, he qualified for both 𝙍𝙎𝙋𝘾 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝙎𝙋𝘾 𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙠𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙋𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨 𝙀𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

However, during his second year in the DSPC it brought a big setback when he failed to get into the top 10. Instead of losing hope and allow disappointment get into him, he used it as a determination to keep on working hard.

On the current year, he entered endless and tireless workshops and trainings improving his skills in cartooning—creating art that conveys a deeper meaning.

Relampago cameback stronger, more passionate and dedicated in what he does for the school publication. After those endless trainings, his hardwork and perseverance paid off when his name was 𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 7𝙩𝙝 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙀𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮, 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗮 𝗯𝗮?

Sa bawat pagtatapos ng klase, tila isang masakit na tanawin ang sumasalubong sa harap ng mga g**o, janitor, at kapwa mag-aaral: mga balat ng junk foods sa sahig, mga papel na nagkalat sa pasilyo at nga plastik na basta na lamang itinapon kung saan-saan.

Nakakalungkot na sa kabila ng paulit-ulit na paalala ng mga g**o at ng mga nakapaskil na paalala sa pader ay tila bingi ang mga kabataan sa pagsunod ng tamang pagtapon ng mga basura sa paligid.

Ayon sa datos ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), tinatayang 40,000 toneladang basura ang nalilikha ng mga Pilipino araw-araw, at malaking porsyento nito ay nagmumula sa mga plastic na hindi agad naaagnas, kung sa loob pa lamang ng paaralan ay hindi na mapanghawakan ng kabataan ang disiplina sa tamang pagtatapon ng basura, paano pa kaya sa mas malawak na lipunan?

Hindi maitatanggi na nagbubunga ito ng mas malalaking problema: pagbabara ng kanal, pagbaha, at sakit. Dagdag pa rito, tinaya ng World Bank noong 2022 na 35% ng kabuuang basura sa bansa ay hindi naaayos ang pagtatapon at napupunta lamang sa mga kalsada at ilog, ngunit higit pa sa dumi, ito ay salamin ng kakulangan ng malasakit at disiplina.

Panahon na upang tanungin ng kabataan ang sarili: “Ano na?” Ang tamang pagtatapon ng basura ay hindi simpleng gawain bagkus ito’y unang hakbang tungo sa pagiging tunay na pag-asa ng bayan. Kung nais natin ng malinis na kinabukasan, magsimula tayo sa malinis na paaralan.

Following the passage of Tropical Depression Verbena, the Municipality of Carmen confirms resumption of classes for public schools on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Carmen Municipal Mayor, Carlo T. Villamor, stated in his post that all classes will resume as the Municipality did not sustain significant damage, casualties, and injuries after assessing the aftermath of the Tropical Depression. The Mayor, expressed his profound gratitude that all of the residents were safe throughout the typhoon.

"Dako kaayo atong pasalamat sa kahitas-an nga na luwas na pud kita pag usab. Sa atong mga estudyante, ang edukasyon usa ka gasa nga dili gayud makuha sa bisag kinsa. Ampingi ug e-paninguha kini" the mayor mentioned in his post, acknowleding his gratitude for the resident's safety and letting students know that Education is one of the greatest blessing no one could ever take.

As all Public Schools resume classes, the Mayor also announced that Private & Tertiary institutions like Cebu Technological University, are advised to use their discretion in deciding whether to adapt face-to-face classes or implement asynchronous learning.
