The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) has achieved a significant breakthrough as it joins the prestigious 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for the first time, marking a bold step in its pursuit of global visibility and sustainable development.
In its maiden participation, ISPSC posted an overall world rank of 1001-1500, joining the roster of top-performing institutions worldwide that demonstrate strong commitment to the United Nationsโ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Known for its strong agriculture program and community extension services, ISPSC earned its highest placement under SDG 2: Zero Hunger, ranking 601- 800 out of 955 participating institutions.
The institution also placed 801-1000 out of 1,267 institutions under SDG 1: No Poverty, and 1001-1500 out of 1,975 under SDG 4: Quality Education. For SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, ISPSC ranked 1501+ out of 1,788 institutions, while under SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, it also landed in the 1501+ bracket out of 2,389.
ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero emphasized the significance of the collegeโs inclusion in the rankings, saying, โThis recognition signals ISPSCโs growing presence in the global academic community and reflects our collective efforts to advance quality education, research, and public service that truly make an impact.โ
He also thanked the Technical Working Group and all ISPSC teaching and non-teaching personnel for their valuable contributions that paved the way for the Collegeโs inclusion in the global rankings. The TWG was composed of Dr. Christine Nabor Ferrer, then Officer-in-Charge, Office of the President; Dr. Annabelle Francisco, former Vice President for Research, Extension, and Internationalization; Dr. Ranec A. Azarias, former Research Director; Dr. Christian Cudiamat Gandeza, former Extension Director; Ms. Maria Ana Ilagan, former Internationalization Director; and the Internationalization (IZN) Coordinators from various campuses.
ISPSC is one of the 13 higher education institutions from Region I included in the 2025 THE Impact Rankings, which evaluated 2,526 universities from 130 countries and regions. The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom led this yearโs global list.
The annual rankings are regarded as one of the most comprehensive assessments of universitiesโ contributions to social and environmental goals. Institutions are evaluated using the enhanced World University Rankings (WUR) 3.0 methodology, which measures performance across five core areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
