Vedic Math Caloocan

It has always been our policy in to give accreditation to only coaches who have completed the Vedic Mathematics Teacher’s Training Course by the Vedic Math Academy of UK or who have passed the assessments given by the institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics(IAVM). This is to make sure that the coaches really train their students in Vedic Math.

After the 6th Philippine National Vedic Mathematics Olympiad last September, one of these “coaches” asked me why I make that requirement when other Math competitions always give recognition to coaches of winning contestants without any requirement. He even stressed that his student was able to get a medal in the 6th PNVMO without having to learn VM.

I explained to him that we organize VM competitions precisely because we want the students to use VM in solving common Math problems, which we maintain, leads to a faster and easier solution.

This afternoon, I came across a YouTube video, “A challenging Algebra simplification Math problem” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez7H79tsnO8) which showed a detailed explanation to evaluate the expression 5^11 – 3^2.

Compare the computations in the video which lasted more than 16 minutes using conventional methods with our solution using VM techniques:

5^11 = 5 x 5^10= 5 x (5^5)^2
5^2 = 5 x 5 = 25
5^4 = 25^2 = 625 (Squaring numbers ending in 5)
5^5 = 5 x 5^4 = 5 x 625 = 6250/2 = 3125 (times 5 = times 10/2)
5^10 = 3125^2 = 9/06/13/34/14/20/25 =9765625 (Using Duplexes)
5^11 = 5 x 5^10 = 5 x 9765625 = 97656250/2 = 48828125 (times 5 = times 10/2)
5^11 – 3^2 = 48828125 – 9 = 48,828,116

Which do you think is shorter and less prone to errors?
