On September 17, a banner displayed during the Balik Kampus UEPic 2026 at the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) has drawn attention after it was reportedly taken down by university security personnel.

The banner, which carried the messages โ€œJunk HB 9414, 9861โ€ and โ€œDefend Press Freedom,โ€ was displayed as part of the eventโ€™s banner-making activity. Its removal reportedly led to a confrontation involving members of the university student council, campus publication, and security personnel.

The incident has since prompted discussions surrounding freedom of expression and campus press freedom within the university.

We recognize the efforts and courage of The Pillar and the UEP-USC in standing firm against the oppression and control of student expression. The university campus must remain a humane, just, and free society where students are able to reach their full potentialโ€“not restricted to abide by oppressive norms and violate their rights.

The CSC-COED remains faithful to the democratic process of hearing the concerns of students, addressing through collective decision-making, and ensuring that no rights of students are violated.

Student leaders and SBO creatives from the College of Education attended a design workshop led by The Nexus. Dan Christoper Delda, the workshop speaker, shared insights on basic design principles and layout techniques to help participants improve their designing skills using the Canva app.

The College of Education was also recognized for having the most participants among the colleges in attendance, receiving a certificate of recognition for the achievement.

The College of Education expresses its appreciation to The Nexus for organizing and leading the workshop and for providing students with an opportunity to develop their creative skills.

Yesterday, selected student leaders from our College of Education organizations came together for a day filled with learning, collaboration, connection, hands-on practice in handling the documents and responsibilities that come with leadership, and a little bit of fun.

From project proposals, resolutions, communication letters, meeting notices, and minutes to financial and liquidation reports, the sessions equipped our officers with practical knowledge they can bring back to their respective organizations.
