As a high school student of Roosevelt College, Atty. Edna Montoya showed her upright qualities by taking part in the student council as an auditor, and her leadership skills as a junior assistant and patrol leader in the school’s Girl Scout of the Philippines. Her participation as a staff in the school’s papers Roosevelt Chronicle and Rooseveltian Annual displayed her interest and skills in writing.

After graduating as a scholar in the Far Eastern University with the degree in A.B. Political Science, Atty. Edna A. Montoya decided to continue further studies at the University of the Philippines College of Law, and obtained her Bachelor of Laws ranking 24th out of 103 graduates.

Atty. Edna A. Montoya worked as a personal administrative manager at the start of her work experience and with much knowledge to share and wisdom to contribute, Atty. Montoya later worked as a litigation and partner in different prominent law offices. Moreover, she served as the Director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines for two terms and as the treasurer in another term.

With all her participation and contribution to the country through her expertise in law practices, Edna is a true example of a beautiful and smart Rooseveltian, with a heart.

Marites T. Gubi still vividly remembers how her love affair with the television started: by watching variety shows and Julie Vega’s “Annaliza” on their black-and-white boobtube with sliding doors as a child. This love would fuel her curiosity to know what goes on behind the camera, and her desire to be part of the entertainment world as an adult.

After high school, Gubi pursued Bachelor of Arts Major in Communications in St. Joseph’s College and graduated in 1998. As fate would have it, she met a fellow alumnus who happened to be an ABS-CBN Star Magic employee. He paved the way for Gubi’s internship, and the rest is history.

Gubi was officially hired as Promo Assistant at ABS-CBN Star Magic (then called ABS-CBN Talent Center) in 1999. Before long, she was promoted to Promo Specialist, then Promotions and Publicity Manager in 2012. Aside from handling issues-related concerns, her job requires her to deal with celebrities and their respective managers, and media personalities for the promotional activities of Star Magic and its artists.

Gubi acknowledges that her employment with ABS-CBN gave her the opportunity to enhance her skills and talents, develop her personality, and work with some of the most hardworking and talented people in the industry. The past twenty years of being a Kapamilya have molded her dedication and passion for what she does. After all, unlike what most people think based on what they see on Gubi’s glitz-ridden social media, her success was not all smooth-sailing. There were―and still are―storms and crossroads, but her love for her career will keep her going.

Romeo Garcia is an elementary graduate of Roosevelt College Marikina Batch 1992 and is first to admit that he was a “late-bloomer” who grew out of his “ordinary” life as a grade school student to become an achiever after college. He graduated from Polytechnic University of the Philippines with a degree in Political Science, then finished his Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Bachelor of Laws at Jose Rizal University.

Garcia had a flourishing corporate career as a manager in a leading maritime and manpower company when he took his leap of faith three years ago. After years of employment, he set up his own consulting firm, taking his own experiences to offer expert business management advice to clients.

However, the move was not smooth and seamless in the beginning. Garcia almost quit but he persevered. And this perseverance led to more opportunities, which led him to where he is now: leading another new startup company, backed financially by partners.

Throughout his struggles, Garcia learned that the journey is just as important as the destination. He also acknowledges how the personal and professional challenges that he went through shaped his resilience. His advice to students: “Dream big but be ready to take the fall. Endure, rest or change direction, but never give up.”

Dr. Reynaldo Lemos Salinel Jr. is raising the Rooseveltian banner in the field of medicine. He graduated from Roosevelt College Cainta in the year 1983, and took BS Medical Technology at the FEU-NRMF School of Medical Technology as his pre-medicine, then moved to the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Medicine, where he was a University Academic Scholar.

Dr. Salinel spent his residency training in Family and Community Medicine at Ospital ng Maynila, then trained on Infectious and Tropical Medicine at the San Lazaro Hospital for three years. Concurrently, he was also finishing his Diabetes Education at the UERM Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation.

Aside from his medical practice, Dr. Salinel also keeps himself busy by teaching and sharing his expertise as speaker in different symposia. If his name sounds familiar, that is because he has also been appearing as host or resource person in various TV and radio shows. These include “Klinika on Air” on DZRJ, “Super Kalusugan with Manang Rose at DZBB, “Lunas” and “Doctor ng Masa” at DZRH, and Radio Clinica at DWIZ, “Ok kay Doc” at QTV 11, and “Salamat Dok” at ABS-CBN.

For Dr. Salinel, medical practice is public service. This is why he has also consistently volunteered for various medical missions with Studio 23, Generation RX, TV5 Alagang Kapatid, and ABS-CBN.
