BSIT 1-3: Enriching Senior Lives Through Virtual Travel

“𝘒𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘭𝘪 𝘯𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘨-𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘨, 𝘬𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘢𝘨 𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘥𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘰— 𝘣𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨.”

On April 12, 2025, the first-year students of Block BSIT 1-3 conducted their NSTP Community Service activity entitled "𝐍𝐚𝐲, 𝐓𝐚𝐲, 𝐁𝐢𝐲𝐚𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚—𝐁𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠!" at the Barangay Hall of Barangay 10, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

This initiative allowed the elderly of Barangay 10 to explore various destinations, cultures, and traditions from around the world— without leaving the comfort of their barangay hall. Recognizing the mobility limitations faced by many senior citizens, the program was thoughtfully designed to offer a virtual escape, sparking curiosity and delight through carefully curated travel-themed content. Through this, the students of BSIT 1-3 were able to foster a deeper connection with the elderly community and most importantly, deliver moments of joy and relaxation to those who may no longer have the means to physically travel.

One moment that stood out was a quiet conversation with a lola who approached Ms. Regine.
Lola: "𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘺𝘶𝘥 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘺𝘰, 𝘥𝘢𝘺."
Ms. Regine: "𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘣, 𝘕𝘢𝘺, 𝘴𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘺𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘴."
She paused for a moment before sharing, "𝘋𝘪𝘭𝘪 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢 𝘬𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘢𝘯𝘩𝘪 𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘱𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘢. 𝘒𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪 𝘮𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘣𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘨-𝘢𝘯𝘩𝘪 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘺, 𝘶𝘯𝘺𝘢 𝘬𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘺𝘢..."
To which Ms. Regine responded softly, "𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘕𝘢𝘺. 𝘚𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵. 𝘔𝘢𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢-𝘢𝘯𝘩𝘪 𝘬𝘢 𝘶𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨 𝘮𝘪'𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨."
Lola smiled gently and said, "𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘪 𝘬𝘰, 𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯 𝘬𝘰. 𝘕𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘶𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘰𝘯 𝘬𝘰."

That exchange reminded us that behind every smile is a story, and sometimes, just showing up and being present can make a difference in someone's day. It was a moment that grounded the purpose of our efforts— offering even just a brief moment of comfort and happiness to someone who needed it.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Barangay Captain Hon. Christopher Y. Calunod for his support, generosity, and for opening the doors of the barangay hall to make this event possible and to the community of Barangay 10, Cagayan de Oro City, for warmly welcoming us and allowing us the opportunity to share this experience with your beloved senior citizens.

We would also extend our sincerest appreciation to our NSTP teacher-in-charge, Ms. Regine A. Albios, for her unwavering guidance, encouragement, and dedication throughout the planning and ex*****on of this activity.

Lastly, to BSIT 1-3— thank you for your cooperation, hard work, and teamwork despite the limited time and resources. It was a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated group, and this experience would not have been as impactful without everyone's effort.

We went home not only having fulfilled our NSTP responsibilities but with a renewed sense of purpose and compassion, inspired to continue making a difference in the lives of others, one thoughtful act at a time.
