To fully implement Presidential Proclamation No. 1041, s. 1997, the Xavier University General Education and Interdisciplinary Studies Department is proudly celebrating August as National Language Month (Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa) with the theme, "Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya." As part of the celebration, the department has organized a two-day event featuring various activities such as an essay writing contest, extemporaneous speech competition, poster-making contest, Filipino food exhibit, and OPM songs singing contest. These activities aim to foster appreciation for the national language, highlight its significance, and promote its preservation.

The Department of General Education and Interdisciplinary Studies organized a series of activities to mark the end of GEIDS Days 2024 last May 14, 2024.

Starting off in the morning with the GEIDS Lecture Series on basic photography and a lecture on "fostering students' mental health and well-being", the celebration reaches twofold in excitement with the Extemporaneous Speech Contest and the STS 10 S&T Advocacy Video Contest. Ending with a climax at its closing ceremony, the awarding of the winning contestants commenced in acknowledgement and celebration of the students efforts in showcasing their knowledge and talent.

Join us in celebrating "Alindanaw '24: Expanding Borders and Bridging Minds" - a weeklong festivity honoring the vital role of General Education and Interdisciplinary Studies (GE-IDS) at Xavier Ateneo from May 8 to 14, 2024. 🌟

Mr. Roderick Z. Ocangas, GE-IDS chairperson, likened GE-IDS to a dragonfly's multifaceted eyes, offering diverse perspectives. 🦋 Dr. Judy Sendaydiego, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasized GE as the foundation of academic disciplines, empowering students with adaptability. 💪

Activities include the first GEIDS lecture series on basic photography with the content creator of Metro CDO PH, Mr. Tom Udasco, and a lecture on "fostering students' mental health and well-being" with the Psychology Department chair, Mr. Jason O. Manaois. 📸🧠 Additionally, the GE-IDS also prepared activities such as logo-making contests, extemporaneous speeches, and the STS 10 S&T Advocacy Video Contest. 🎨🎙️📽️
