That’s because most modern devices use 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘴, which sense 𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘺 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 instead of pressure⚡. This technology was first made possible by 𝙀𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙪𝙧 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙣 in 1965, marking the beginning of touchscreens as we know them today 🖥️.

According to Sirois (2024), under the glass of capacitive touchscreens, there’s a 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳 (often indium tin oxide) that creates an electrostatic field across the screen 🌐. When your finger—𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺—touches the surface, it disrupts the local electric field and changes the electrical charge at that point. The touchscreen’s sensors notice that change and tell the device’s processor exactly where and when you touched it within microseconds 🕒. The phone then uses this information to respond with swipes, taps, and gestures you see on screen 📱.

In short, your body’s natural electrical conductivity is what lets capacitive touchscreens detect your touch, so even special styluses or conductive gloves can mimic your fingers. 🖐🏻🖋️

The third and final day concluded the seminar with a focus on Mixed Methods Research, which combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to enhance research outcomes. The session emphasized that numbers reveal what is happening and how much, while qualitative data explains the why and how behind the results. 🔍📘

Participants explored why researchers mix methods to gain both breadth and depth, improve credibility through multiple data sources, and better explain unexpected or conflicting findings. Discussions also highlighted key design decisions such as timing, priority of methods, and where integration happens within the study.

With the guidance of 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐁. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐳, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, together with 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 (𝒯ℛ𝒮) and the 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝒜𝒮ℰ), Day 3 showed that meaningful research comes from connecting evidence with experience. 🤝✨

Day 2 brought numbers to life through quantitative research, emphasizing how the right method leads to the right conclusion. 🔆✔️

To make the concept clearer, the resource speaker, 𝙎𝙞𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙯, 𝙋𝙝𝘿, drew a comparison with Archimedes’ gold crown story—a reminder that solving a problem requires choosing the correct way to analyze evidence. 📊🔍

This session emphasized critical thinking, careful interpretation, and the art of uncovering patterns behind stories and responses.
