Out of 36 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 from 𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗨-𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻, 19 successfully 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 the April 2025 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, resulting in an 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 of 52.78%. 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 achieved a 72.22% passing rate, while 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 had a 33.33% passing rate.

From March 26 to 28, 2025, the 4th-year BS Computer Engineering students of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) participated in a three-day Related Learning Experience in Cebu. The trip provided an immersive educational opportunity focused on cybersecurity, networking, IT innovations, and digital governance.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏: 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜. 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐒𝐀 - 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧

The students commenced their technical learning journey with a visit to WorldTech Information Solutions Inc., a company specializing in cybersecurity and IT training. During the session, they gained a deeper understanding of how businesses protect their networks from cyber threats, prevent hacking attempts, and secure sensitive data. The discussion covered real-world cybersecurity incidents and the strategies used to mitigate risks. Additionally, the company introduced various industry-recognized IT certifications that could enhance their future careers.

In the afternoon, the students proceeded to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (PAGASA - Mactan), where they explored the role of meteorology and climate science in disaster preparedness. They learned about advanced weather forecasting techniques, data analysis, and the use of technology in monitoring climate conditions. This experience provided valuable insights into how IT professionals contribute to meteorological research and early warning systems.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐: 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬-𝐎𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮

On the second day, the students attended a seminar at the Management of Information and Computer Services (MICS) at Pier Cuatro Hotel. MICS is the IT department responsible for Cebu’s digital infrastructure and e-governance initiatives. The seminar focused on the crucial role of IT in urban planning, digital transformation, and public service innovations. The students gained an understanding of how technology is integrated into government operations to improve efficiency and accessibility.

In the afternoon, they visited Rivan IT Cebu, a company specializing in networking services and IT infrastructure. This session provided an invaluable hands-on experience, where students engaged in network configuration, system connectivity, and fiber optics installation. They worked with industry-standard equipment, gaining practical skills in troubleshooting, setting up routers and switches, and optimizing network performance. This immersive training allowed them to apply classroom theories to real-world IT environments, reinforcing their technical knowledge.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟑: 𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐔𝐏 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮'𝐬 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐒 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥

The final day of the trip began with a visit to UP Cebu’s UP Hub, an innovation center that supports tech startups and research projects. The students had an insightful discussion with Jason Nieva, who shared knowledge about entrepreneurial opportunities in IT, the process of launching tech-driven businesses, and how student projects can evolve into feasible startup ideas. This session exposed them to the importance of innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset in the field of technology.

Following this, the students toured the Cebu City Hall’s MICS office, where they observed IT professionals managing the city's digital services, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity measures. They saw firsthand how government agencies utilize technology for public service efficiency, data management, and interdepartmental collaboration. The visit highlighted the critical role of IT professionals in governance and policy implementation.

This three-day technical field trip provided the students with real-world exposure to various IT applications, from cybersecurity and networking to startup innovations and digital governance. Each company visit and training session expanded their technical expertise, introduced them to industry standards, and offered insights into the evolving IT landscape.

By engaging with professionals and working with cutting-edge technology, the students bridged the gap between theory and practice, preparing them for the dynamic and ever-growing field of Computer Engineering. With new knowledge and valuable experiences, they returned home with a stronger foundation in IT and a clearer vision for their future careers.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏: 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐁𝐑𝐓 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐁𝐮𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The much-anticipated educational tour for students from the College of Engineering in Cebu kicked off with great enthusiasm. The first day was both exciting and informative, setting the tone for the upcoming days filled with learning and hands-on experiences. The first stop was a seminar on the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (CBRT) system, held at Kalea Hall. Shortly after, the group visited the CBRT construction site. As Cebu’s first of its kind, the CBRT project marks a significant milestone in the city's efforts to transform its transportation infrastructure.

Upon reaching the worksite, the scope of the project became apparent. Faculty members guided the students through the site, discussing the engineering challenges and innovations that make this ambitious project possible. Students witnessed the construction of massive pillars for the BRT lanes and observed how the city is reconfiguring itself to accommodate this new mode of transportation.

Through the tour, students learned that the CBRT was designed to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce air pollution, and offer a sustainable transportation alternative for the residents of Cebu. The excitement and awe expressed by everyone were palpable, as they recognized the long-term impact this project would have. It was both inspiring and educational to witness such a large-scale engineering project in motion.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐: 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐏𝐖𝐇 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟕 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞

The second day began with a visit at Lightstrong Company, a leading innovator in advanced construction materials. The company welcomed the students and guided them through their production process, explaining the science behind their proprietary Lightstrong blocks. Known for being both lightweight and incredibly strong, these blocks are made from recycled materials, making them an eco-friendly choice for construction projects.

Before heading to the factory floor, the students were given a detailed explanation of the various advantages these blocks offer. The students then had the opportunity to observe the entire process, from raw material preparation to the shaping and curing of the blocks. It was a great experience to see how the company is using sustainable practices and efficient methods in construction, and students were excited to witness firsthand how they are driving innovation in the construction materials industry.

In the afternoon, the group visited the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) Region 7 Office in Cebu. The DPWH oversees the planning, design, and implementation of public infrastructure projects in the region, making it an ideal place for the students to learn more about government-led engineering projects. After interacting with DPWH staff, students were given an overview of various infrastructure projects the agency is working on. They also had the opportunity to tour some ongoing projects, where faculty members explained the intricacies of each site. This provided students with a practical understanding of how Civil Engineering principles are applied in real-world projects.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟑: 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐒𝐈)

On the third day, the students visited Concrete Solutions Inc. (CSI), one of the leaders in the ready-mix concrete industry. The visit began with a seminar, where experts from CSI discussed the concrete industry and the technology behind ready-mix concrete (RMC). Students learned about the precise mixture ratios, quality control processes, and the role concrete plays in modern construction.

After the seminar, students were guided around the CSI factory, where they observed the machinery and processes involved in producing ready-mix concrete. It was fascinating to see the technological advancements in batching and mixing materials for concrete production. The factory tour helped students appreciate just how essential concrete is in various construction projects, from roads to buildings to bridges.

As the day came to a close, the students and faculty began to pack up, ready to return home. The experience was memorable, and the lessons learned during the tour would resonate for years to come. Faculty members were particularly impressed with the students’ active participation and keen interest throughout the tour. This journey was not only about exploration and learning but also about bonding, and it offered a valuable realization of how engineering is shaping the future of Cebu and the world.

As the students boarded the bus to head home, they were filled with a sense of new insights and excitement. They had witnessed engineering in action, seeing the work of engineers and specialists firsthand. This related learning experience (RLE) proved to be an essential part of their academic journey, opening their eyes to the world of possibilities that await them in their future careers as civil engineers.
