FGHNHS STRENGTHENS FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS THROUGH IEC AND SIMULATION DRILL

In line with the nationwide observance of Fire Prevention Month, Franklin Guy Haight National High School successfully conducted an Information Education Campaign (IEC) and Fire Prevention Simulation on March 24, 2026, aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and promoting fire safety awareness among its stakeholders.

The activity was facilitated by invited personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection–Atok, who served as resource speakers and trainers for the event. The campaign gathered faculty members and selected learners, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire prevention, emergency response, and safety protocols.

As Fire Prevention Month continues, the school encourages everyone to remain alert, practice safety measures, and take proactive steps in preventing fire incidents both in school and at home.

The FGHNHS community extends its sincere gratitude to the Atok-BFP for their invaluable support, expertise, and dedication in ensuring the success of this activity.

FGHNHS CONDUCTS GAD SEMINAR AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING

In line with the celebration of National Women’s Month, Franklin Guy Haight National High School (FGHNHS) successfully conducted a Gender and Development (GAD) Seminar-Workshop and Leadership Training on March 23, 2026, carrying the theme “Empowered Voices: Promoting Gender Sensitivity, Respect, and Self-worth.”

The activity brought together faculty members and student leaders in a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and collaboration aimed at strengthening awareness and promoting inclusive practices within the school community. The initiative also supports the Department of Education’s commitment to mainstream gender and development principles in education.

To enrich the learning experience, the school partnered with experts and student leaders from Benguet State University (BSU). The invited resource speakers included Dr. Imelda G. Parcasio and Dr. Imee C. Cuadra, who shared their expertise on gender sensitivity, equality, and empowerment. They were joined by selected student leaders from the BSU Secondary Laboratory School (BSU-SLS), who actively led the leadership training sessions.

The seminar-workshop was conducted through parallel sessions designed to address the specific needs of both teachers and students. Faculty members engaged in an in-depth discussion on the integration of GAD principles in classroom instruction. This was followed by a collaborative workshop where teachers developed strategies and instructional approaches that promote gender-fair and inclusive learning environments.

Meanwhile, student leaders participated in a dynamic leadership training alongside BSU-SLS student leaders. The session focused on enhancing leadership skills, fostering self-confidence, and encouraging active participation in promoting gender sensitivity and respect among peers. Through interactive activities and group discussions, students were empowered to become advocates of equality and positive change within the school.

The activity highlighted the importance of education as a platform for promoting gender awareness and respect. It also reinforced the role of both educators and students in building a safe, inclusive, and empowering school environment.

Through this initiative, FGHNHS continues to uphold its commitment to nurturing informed, responsible, and gender-sensitive individuals who are capable of contributing to a more equitable society.

FGHNHS new building nears completion following joint site inspection in Paoay, Atok
(March 4, 2026)

A shared vision for accessible and quality education took a significant step forward as key stakeholders conducted a site inspection today on the ongoing school building construction of Franklin Guy Haight National High School in Olis, Paoay.

Leading the visit was School Head Jona B. Kiwas-Valdez, joined by Hon. Simon T. Backian, Sangguniang Bayan Member and Chairperson of the Committee on Education; Hon. Murphy D. Wagayan, Barangay Chairman of Paoay; and Mr. Edward S. Haight, heir of the school’s site donor. The team closely monitored the latest developments of the new school building, which is now nearing completion.

Among the visible progress noted during the inspection were the installation of floor tiles and doors, ongoing wall painting, and other finishing touches signaling that the structure is in its final phase of construction. The developments reflect steady advancement toward the goal of providing learners with a safer and more conducive learning environment.

Mr. Haight also took the opportunity to walk the group along the school site’s perimeter, identifying boundary markers that outline the full extent of the donated property. The gesture underscored the generosity behind the land donation and reaffirmed the family’s continued support for the institution.

The inspection also placed strong emphasis on safety standards. Hon. Backian stressed that learner and teacher safety must remain the foremost priority in the project. He emphasized that beyond aesthetics and structural completion, the durability and security of the facilities should meet standards that ensure long-term protection and functionality.

Following the site visit, the delegation proceeded to Haight’s Place, where they were warmly received by co-heir Mrs. Susan Ong. In an intimate exchange, Mrs. Ong shared the inspiring story of Franklin Guy Haight, whose legacy paved the way for the establishment of the school on the donated land.

As construction nears completion, the new campus stands not only as a physical structure but as a testament to collaboration among school leaders, local officials, and benefactors — all united in strengthening access to quality education in the highlands of Benguet.

The new school building is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy before the opening of the next school year, marking a milestone for the growing academic community in Atok.

Atok Bet clinches 3rd Place in Division PopDev Quiz Bee

Eli C. Lamsis, a Grade 10 learner of Franklin Guy Haight National High School, secured third place in the Division Population Development (PopDev) Quiz Bee held at Dap-ayan Restaurant, La Trinidad, Benguet on February 27, 2026.

Lamsis represented the District of Atok in the division-level competition after emerging as champion in the district eliminations. Competing against top qualifiers from various districts across Benguet, he earned a total of 20 points, placing third overall. The Kibungan District secured second place with 22 points, while the La Trinidad District emerged as champion with 24 points.

Guided by his coach, Ma’am Nesalyn A. Papco-o, Lamsis demonstrated strong knowledge and critical thinking skills in the field of population development, reflecting the school’s commitment to academic excellence and learner empowerment.

“Every challenge during the competition reminded me that preparation and perseverance truly make a difference. I hope this inspires other students to believe in their abilities and aim higher, no matter how tough the competition may be,” expressed Lamsis.

His success serves as an inspiration to fellow learners to actively participate in academic competitions and strive for excellence beyond the classroom.

The school community marked the opening of its 4th Foundation and Family Day Celebration with a meaningful and well-organized program that emphasized gratitude, learning, and unity. The event began with a Thanksgiving Service, followed by the presentation of the school’s milestones delivered by Ma’am Catherine L. Milo, highlighting the institution’s journey, achievements, and continuous growth. A series of informative talks then followed, featuring Hon. Edward S. Haight and Hon. Simon T. Backian on the foundation of the school, Hon. Edward Beliano and Hon. Murphy D. Wagayan on family and parenting matters, and an IEC session on fire prevention conducted by SF02 Luis L. Balli for families and learners.

The program also showcased performances from learners across all grade levels, featuring songs and dances dedicated to their loved ones, which added warmth and emotion to the celebration. These presentations underscored the strong partnership between the school and families, setting a positive and inspiring tone for the rest of the event.
