LOOK | STI Batangas Explores the Future of Digital Broadcasting at DICT Seminar
STI College Batangas actively participated in the two-day Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Seminar held on August 12โ13, 2026, at JVJ Hotel Batangas City. The seminar introduced participants to developments and initiatives shaping the countryโs digital future, particularly in broadcasting, emergency communication, and emerging technologies.
The first day focused on the countryโs transition from analog to Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) and the preparation for the Analog Switch-Off (A*O). The discussion emphasized that digital broadcasting is not only about improved television quality but also about expanding access to information and digital services.
Participants were also introduced to the Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS), which allows official and area-specific emergency warnings to be delivered through digital television. The discussion connected digital broadcasting with disaster preparedness and the need for reliable communication during emergencies.
The seminar also covered ICT for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), including communication technologies used to support responders and maintain connectivity during disasters. Discussions on the Konektadong Pinoy Act, E-Governance Act, cybersecurity, data protection, and responsible AI further highlighted how ICT is being integrated into government services and national development.
The second day shifted the focus toward the Broadcast and Multimedia Development Framework (BMDF), which aims to further develop the countryโs digital broadcast and multimedia ecosystem. The framework builds on the DTTB migration and focuses on four areas: Digital Broadcast Services, Broadcast Resilience, Creative Economy Interface, and Broadcast Convergence and Innovation.
The discussions explored how digital broadcasting can be strengthened for disaster response, used to expand the reach of Filipino creative content, and enhanced through emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing, and immersive media. Proposed applications included AI-assisted captioning for EWBS alerts and the use of technology in data journalism and digital broadcasting.
The two-day seminar gave STI College Batangas participants a clearer view of how broadcasting is evolving alongside ICTโfrom the transition to digital television and the delivery of emergency information to the development of new broadcast services, support for Filipino creators, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies. The discussions highlighted the importance of technology, communication, and human participation in building a more innovative, resilient, and inclusive Philippine broadcast and multimedia landscape.
