The Central Luzon State University (CLSU) proudly formalizes its academic and research partnership with Chungbuk National University (CBNU), marking another significant milestone in the University’s expanding global engagement.

Sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in 2025, this partnership strengthens collaboration in instruction, research, faculty and student exchange, and joint scientific initiatives. It reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advance agricultural innovation—particularly in the fields of ruminants, swine, and poultry science, as well as sustainable livestock production—through meaningful international cooperation.

A key highlight of the agreement is the priority collaboration between the CLSU Small Ruminant Center of CLSU and the College of Agriculture, Life, and Environment of CBNU. The partnership will focus on small ruminant nutrition, molecular biology and genomics, reproductive biotechnology, and meat science. These initiatives will be implemented through joint research projects, academic exchanges, shared data, and co-publications aimed at driving high-impact innovation in animal science.

This milestone was made possible through the unwavering dedication of Associate Professor Dr. Kim Margarette Nogoy Sarmiento of the Small Ruminant Center, and the International Affairs Office in close collaboration with Professor Dr. Seongho Choi of CBNU. Their vision and leadership were instrumental in establishing this international partnership, further strengthening academic cooperation between the Philippines and South Korea.

Through this CBNU–CLSU collaboration, the University boldly advances its internationalization agenda—driving transformative research, empowering globally competitive faculty and students, and accelerating agricultural innovation that creates lasting impact beyond borders.

𝗜𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀| SRC’s “Nourishing the Young” Project Demonstrates Research Impact on Child Health and Development

The Small Ruminant Center (SRC) of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) successfully concluded its flagship nutrition initiative, NOURISHING THE YOUNG: Goat Milk Feeding Program and Utilization of CLSU Functional Food Products for Undernourished Learners in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, on February 5, 2026.

A total of 103 undernourished learners from Bantug Elementary School and DepEd-CLSU Elementary School benefited from the program, which provided goat milk and CLSU-developed functional food products over 120 feeding days.

Funded by the CLSU Gender and Development Office, the project demonstrates how research-based technologies developed within the university can directly address community nutrition challenges, particularly childhood undernutrition.

Implemented under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Leny Lyn Del Rosario, the program translated SRC’s work in goat milk production, nutrition, and functional food utilization into a practical intervention that supported both child health and learning capacity.
Teachers and parents observed meaningful improvements in the health and well-being of the learners during the program.

NEWS | CLSU, Atolita Farms Corp. Partner to Boost Dairy and Livestock Research

Central Luzon State University (CLSU), through the Small Ruminant Center (SRC), formalized a strategic industry–academe partnership with Atolita Farms Corporation through a ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing. The collaboration aims to strengthen innovation, improve production systems, and support the advancement of the goat industry through shared expertise and collaborative initiatives.

The event was led by University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella and joined by SRC Director Neal A. Del Rosario and Ms. Leny Lyn M. Del Rosario. While the Atolita Farms delegation was headed by Chairman Mahmut Koray Erimez, alongside CEO Johanna Erimez, Chief Financial Officer Edwin Valencia, and Chief HR Officer Jopen Cobangbang.

The MOU is a non-financial framework agreement but it highlights CLSU’s proactive engagement in livestock sector modernization and national food security.

By bridging the gap between the classroom and the field, the University continues to create meaningful opportunities for faculty and staff researchers, and the broader agricultural community through responsible industry partnerships.

Smallholder dairy goat farmers were among those hit economically and socially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To recover from the effects of the pandemic, Central Luzon State University equipped dairy goat raisers in Central Luzon with livelihood opportunities through the Let’s Doe Business dairy production project to establish sustainable enterprises and improved livelihood.

Lessons from SRC: Practical Use of UMMB and Urea-Treated Roughages in Goat Feeding

Goats are known for being hardy and adaptable, yet many raisers still struggle with low growth, poor body condition, and inconsistent performance, especially during the dry season.

Often, the issue is not the number of animals, but how well available feeds are actually utilized. Simple supplements like urea-molasses mineral blocks (UMMB) and urea-treated roughages have been used for decades, but they are often misunderstood, misapplied, or underutilized at the farm level.

Join us on Thursday, December 18, 2025, as Mr. Neal A. Del Rosario, Director of the Small Ruminant Center (SRC), shares lessons from SRC on the practical use of UMMB and urea-treated roughages in goat feeding, what they can and cannot do, when they make sense, and how they fit into real smallholder conditions.

The Central Luzon State University–Small Ruminant Center (CLSU–SRC), in collaboration with the College of Home Science and Industry (CHSI), turned up the heat at the DHTM Building on 26 November 2025 with the culmination of The Meeester Chef: Rediscovering Chevon and Goat’s Milk in Filipino Fusion Cuisine. Funded by the University Gender and Development (GAD) Office, the cook-off brought fire, flair, and fun into one lively kitchen showcase.

Led by Project Leader Ms. Evadne S. Veluz, this year’s edition invited male employees from various CLSU units to step boldly into the culinary arena in celebration of Buwan ni Adan. The project highlighted that the kitchen is a space where anyone—regardless of gender—can take the lead, fuel creativity, and build confidence.

As sizzling pans, open flames, and bursts of aroma filled the air, teams raced against the clock to prepare their own three-course Filipino fusion meals featuring chevon and goat’s milk, two of the SRC’s signature commodities.

This year, the spotlight was placed on CLSU’s own employees, who took on culinary roles as Chefs—leading their teams, inspiring creativity, and carrying the heat in the kitchen. A team of students were also recognized for their key technical roles, particularly in crafting goat’s milk–based desserts, designing plate presentations, and ensuring the overall culinary ex*****on of each team’s entry.

𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆
The message of Dr. Mecedita M. Reyes, University GAD Office Director, added warmth to the event’s closing moments. She emphasized the value of inclusive activities where all genders can participate, learn, and lead confidently. She also commended the SRC for being one of the most active units and consistently supporting gender-responsive programs within CLSU.

“We hope that this activity will continue next year—stronger, more inclusive, and even more impactful in collaboration with CHSI. Together, we can empower every individual to take part in creating a more gender-responsive CLSU,” she said.

With every dish plated and every course served, The Meeester Chef 2025 proved that cooking can be a powerful way to spark teamwork, encourage participation, and build confidence. The SRC and CHSI once again showed that chevon and goat’s milk can ignite creativity and bring people together.

The competition has ended, but the flame it lit continues to burn within the CLSU community.
