Creativity met resilience as Hannah Mitch Pagaduan, a Grade 11 learner of Abra High School, painted her way to victory after emerging as the Champion in the Poster-Making Contest held on July 30 at the Abra PPO Open Gymnasium, Camp Juan Villamor Calaba, Bangued.

The activity was among the highlight events of the National Disaster Resilience Month celebration, anchored on the theme, "Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas," and was spearheaded by the Abra Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).

Competing against talented young artists from across the province, Pagaduan impressed the judges with a poster that powerfully conveyed the importance of disaster preparedness, collective action, and community resilience.

Coached by Mr. Christian Paul Abella, Pagaduan showcased her artistic excellence to secure the title.

The championship highlights Abra High School's commitment to nurturing learners who use their creativity to promote meaningful advocacies while excelling beyond the classroom.

Classes may have ended, but service to the school community continued as learners, teachers, and personnel of Abra High School took part in a simultaneous Clean-Up Drive on July 29 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Held at the Main Campus and Sinalang Extension in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month, the activity mobilized volunteers to remove litter, clear drainage canals, and tidy classrooms and school grounds.

The hour-long initiative underscored the role of environmental stewardship in disaster risk reduction and reflected the school's commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and resilient campus for all.

Abra High School earned positive remarks as it opened its doors to the Regional Monitoring and Technical Assistance for Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OK sa DepEd) today, July 21, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the health, safety, and well-being of learners.

The monitoring team was composed of Regional Office personnel Dr. Raymond S. Damoslog and Dr. Joane S. Bumanghat. Joining the activity were Division Office personnel Dr. Apolinar L. Turqueza, Dr. Maricar V. Taberdo and nurses Darren C. Cariรฑo, Jerlyn T. Tullas, Hussein T. Siganay and Estrelita A. Seares.

The team assessed the school's implementation of the OK sa DepEd flagship programs, including the school-based feeding program, medical, dental and nursing services, WASH in schools, adolescent reproductive health, school mental health program, and the National Drug Education program. Reports, accomplishments, and means of verification (MOVs) were likewise validated, while technical assistance was provided to further strengthen program implementation.

Under the leadership of AHS Principal Miss Jasmine P. Bringas, EdD, and School Nurse and AHS OK sa DepEd Focal Person Margaux Agudal, Abra High School ensured the availability of all required documents and reports for the monitoring.

The monitoring team commended the school for its proactive initiatives, particularly the conduct of health examinations during enrolment, health and safety orientations during the Opening Block, and the recently concluded First Aid Training for teachers and student leaders. They likewise recognized the school's sustained implementation of various health programs made possible through the strong collaboration of the school, parents, and community partners, including the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Bangued, the Local Government Unit of Bangued, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and other stakeholders who continue to support learner health, safety, and emergency preparedness initiatives.

The successful monitoring highlighted that at Abra High School, healthy learners and healthy practices continue to go hand in hand.

Learners and teachers of Abra High School Main and Sinalang Extension gained valuable emergency response skills during the Basic First Aid Training held on July 18, 2026, at the Abra High School Gymnasium. Organized by the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Team, the activity was one of the school's highlights in its observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.

The training began with School Nurse Margaux Bernadin C. Agudal, NII, who provided an overview of first aid principles and demonstrated how prompt and appropriate intervention can help prevent further injury during emergencies.

Building on this foundation, SDO Abra Nurse Janssen Basil M. Damian, NII conducted an interactive session on Common Emergencies, Moving and Lifting, and Bandaging, equipping participants with practical techniques applicable in school and community settings.

Participants then showcased their learning during a return demonstration facilitated by SDO Nurses Hussein T. Siganay, NII, and Jerlyn T. Tullas, NII, who assessed participants as they performed various first aid procedures. The activity promoted active participation, collaboration, and confidence while reinforcing the importance of preparedness.

Through this initiative, Abra High School continues to strengthen its commitment to creating a disaster-ready school community where learners and teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in times of emergency.

Abra High School athletes now have even more reasons to bring their A-game as the school officially received an electronic scoreboard, rubberized gymnasium flooring, and sports equipment donated by Honorable Mayor Perfecto "Pope" Cardenas today.

The donations mark a significant upgrade to the school's athletic facilities, providing learners with a safer playing surface, modern game equipment, and enhanced resources for sports competitions, physical education classes, and other school activities. The electronic scoreboard is expected to elevate the game-day experience, while the rubberized gymnasium flooring offers improved safety and comfort for student-athletes. The sports equipment will further support training and help develop learners' skills across various sporting disciplines.

Abra High School Principal Miss Jasmine P. Bringas, EdD, expressed her gratitude to Mayor Cardenas for his continued support of the school and its learners. She said that the donations further strengthen the partnership between the local government and Abra High School in promoting holistic education, recognizing that athletics plays a vital role alongside academic achievement in shaping well-rounded learners.

With upgraded facilities now in place, Abra High School looks forward to providing its learners with an even better environment to train, compete, and continue its proud tradition of athletic excellence.

In a fitting tribute to the Cordillera's enduring bond with nature, Abra High School transformed its celebration of the 39th Founding Anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) into an environmental initiative through a Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity held in line with the 80th BSP Abra Council Charter Anniversary.

The activity was jointly organized by the school's Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), and Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), bringing together students, teachers, and scout members in a collective effort to promote environmental stewardship and community service.

Participants planted tree seedlings in designated areas, highlighting the importance of protecting the region's natural resources while honoring two significant milestones.

AHS Principal Miss Jasmine P. Bringas, EdD, emphasized that the activity was more than a ceremonial observance of the twin anniversaries, noting that every seedling planted symbolizes the learners' growing commitment to preserve the Cordillera's rich natural heritage.

Instead of taking it easy over the weekend, teachers, parents, and learners of Abra High School answered the call of the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Team by planting trees in their backyards as part of the school's observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.

The initiative transformed homes into pockets of greenery, inspiring families to become environmental champions while strengthening awareness of disaster risk reduction. Each tree planted symbolizes hope, preparedness, and a shared responsibility to care for the environment.

The activity highlighted the important role that trees play in protecting communities by helping prevent soil erosion, improving air quality, providing shade, and supporting climate resilience.

United by a common purpose, the Abra High School community showed that every backyard can become a starting point for positive environmental change.
