Our study aims to explore the lived experiences of working students in Gregg Shorthand Writing as they navigate their dual roles as students and employees at the College of Management, Northwest Samar State University. Specifically, it seeks to understand the challenges they encounter, the coping strategies they use, the opportunities they gain, and how balancing work and academic responsibilities influences their learning and overall academic experience. โ โ
Every thesis has a story, and ours is a journey of perseverance, patience, and determination. It was never an easy path, but every challenge we faced became a stepping stone toward achieving our goal. โ
โOur journey officially began on October 23, 2025 when we attended our title hearing. We were excited but also nervous, knowing that this was only the beginning of a long academic journey. Presenting our research idea gave us hope and motivation, but it also made us realize the amount of work that lay ahead. โ
โAfter weeks of researching, writing, revising, and preparing, we reached another important milestone our Proposal Defense on December 19, 2025. We believed that once we had successfully defended our proposal, the hardest part was over. However, we soon discovered that our journey was only becoming more challenging. โ โ
One of the biggest obstacles we encountered was the unexpected change of our research adviser. At first, we felt anxious and uncertain because we did not know who would guide us through the rest of our study. We worried about starting over and adjusting to new expectations.
Fortunately, we were blessed to have a new adviser who willingly accepted us and patiently guided us throughout the remainder of our research. Their support, encouragement, and expertise gave us renewed confidence and helped us continue moving forward. โ
โJust when we thought everything was finally falling into place, another challenge came our way. On March 10, 2026 one of the unexpected challenges we faced was conducting a validity testing in Eastern Visayas State University since our study used a qualitative research design, we initially thought that validity testing would not be necessary. However, as we consulted with our adviser and followed the research requirements, we realized that validity testing was still important to ensure that our interview questions were clear, appropriate, and effective. Although it came as a surprise and added another task to our already demanding schedule, we accepted it as part of the learning process. โ โ
There were countless moments of stress, exhaustion, and self-doubt. Deadlines seemed endless, revisions continued to pile up, and balancing our responsibilities tested our patience and determination. Yet through every obstacle, we reminded ourselves why we started this journey. We supported one another, trusted the process, and never allowed temporary setbacks to stop us from reaching our goal. โ โ
Finally, on June 1, 2026, all of our hard work paid off as we stood before the panel for our Final Defense. It was a moment filled with nervousness, excitement, and gratitude. As we presented the study we had worked so hard to complete, we realized that every sleepless night, every revision, every challenge, and every sacrifice had been worth it. โ โ
Looking back, our thesis journey was never just about writing a research paper. It was filled with challenges, learning to persevere despite uncertainty, countless revisions and believing in ourselves even during the most difficult times. It taught us that success is not measured by the absence of challenges but by the courage to keep moving forward despite them.
This journey would not have been possible without the people who believed in us and supported us every step of the way. โ โ
