PRESS RELEASE | 𝐄𝐍𝐃-𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐑 𝐏𝐈𝐋𝐎𝐓 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐀𝐖𝐂 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐊 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐋

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Zamboanga City Field Office, in partnership with Western Mindanao State University, successfully conducted the pilot testing of the VAWC Desk Portal developed by the College of Computing Studies.

The activity brought together selected barangay VAWC Desk Officers as primary users, alongside representatives from the Zamboanga City Police Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and key personnel from DILG Region IX. Participants engaged in a series of discussions, from a refresher on Republic Act No. 9262 to a system overview and walkthrough, followed by a hands-on training session where they explored the portal, identified issues, and shared valuable feedback for improvement.

This pilot testing marks a crucial step in refining the system to ensure it is responsive, efficient, and aligned with the needs of frontline service providers.

BS Computer Science Students Showcase 28 Startup Ventures in Technopreneurship Final Pitch Presentation

Innovation and purpose converged as BS Computer Science Third Year students successfully conducted the Final Pitch Presentation of Technopreneurship (CSE 133 – CS Elective 2) under the mentorship of Asso. Prof. Salimar B. Tahil. The activity was held on December 11–12, 2025, at the Computer Science Department Faculty Room.

The course was delivered through the Wadhwani Ignite Platform, in partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation, providing students with globally aligned entrepreneurial frameworks and practical tools for startup development.

A total of 28 startup ventures, grouped into three cohorts, were formally pitched and evaluated. Each venture underwent rigorous validation processes, focusing on the clarity of the problem identified, the viability and relevance of the proposed solution, and the strength of the problem–market fit. In addition, the student-led startups demonstrated alignment with various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), emphasizing the integration of technology, innovation, and social responsibility.

The evaluation was conducted by a distinguished panel of industry and government practitioners:
