Silence in Numbers - Bystander Effect

Silence in Numbers - Bystander Effect

Share

Silence in Numbers is our way of turning quiet into courage. It’s a youth-led campaign where we speak up about Bystander Effect in bullying.

When we stand together, our voices get louder. And that’s how change starts.

Week 4: THE SHIFT STARTS WITH YOU 🫵

We’ve already talked about the bystander effect. How silence spreads, how hesitation happens and how harm continues when no one steps in. But we’ve also learned that silence isn’t the end of the story.

It can be interrupted. It can be shifted—by you. You don’t need to be loud, you just need to care out loud, in your own way. Because every time you notice, every time you choose to act, you help break the cycle.‼️

The bystander effect loses its grip when even one person chooses courage. So if you’re wondering what to do next... Start small. Start gently. Start now. ✊🫵

At first, we just used flyers to introduce our advocacy campaign on the bystander effect. At the time, it began with a simple question: “Did you know what bystander means?” That question opened the door to reflection, conversation, and small acts of courage. 🤝

And now, we’re ending with a poster, not just a summary, but a reminder. A reminder of the moments we froze, the ways we tried, and the courage we practiced, even in the smallest ways. Because even as the campaign ends, the shift continues.

Thank you for being part of this. Let’s keep choosing courage, in whatever way we can.✊🤍

Yesterday, on our face-to-face advocacy campaign, we gave a random real-life situation about the bystander effect. Each question already holds the choice: Would you help… or would you wait and hesitate?

😊 When you choose to help, you’re making a difference, you’re stepping up and breaking the bystander effect.
😶If you hesitate, that’s okay. It happens to all of us. Every moment is a chance to grow, reflect, and try again with more courage next time.

And guess what? Most of them chose to help. That simple act of speaking up, stepping in, and showing care proves we can start changing the culture. Let’s make empathy louder. Let’s turn hesitation into action. ✨

Week 3: Today is about what to do when speaking up feels hard.
It reminds us that support doesn’t always have to be loud. In our recent advocacy campaign, students shared what stops them from helping—takot, hiya, baka madamay. But they also shared what helps—bravery, awareness, and empathy. 🙂🤍

So today, we’re sharing gentle tips for moments when speaking up feels hard. ❌🗣

1. Check in quietly. 👩‍🦰
A simple “Are you okay?” can mean a lot.
2. Talk to someone safe.👩‍🏫
Share what you saw with a trusted friend, teacher, or adult.
3. Write it down.📝
If speaking feels too hard, send a message or note instead.
4. Use anonymous tools.❔
Report safely if your school or group allows it.
5. Remind yourself: support isn’t always loud. 🙅‍♂️
Even quiet care is powerful.

This poster adds to that message:
You don’t have to be the loudest to make a difference. Even quiet courage matters. ❤️

On our recent, face-to-face advocacy campaign gave students space to reflect, speak up, and listen. By asking what stops people from helping—and what could help them act. We uncovered honest answers: fear, shame, and worry often hold us back, but courage, awareness, and empathy can move us forward. 🤍

Minsan, hindi naman dahil wala tayong pakialam. Pero dahil takot tayo, nahihiya, o baka mapalagay pa tayo sa gulo. Speaking up can feel risky. We ask ourselves: “Paano kung lumala? Paano kung madamay ako?” And that’s valid.

Through this wall of reflection, we saw how fear can hold us back, but courage and awareness can help us step in. This campaign reminded us that change starts with reflection, and even quiet voices can lead to brave actions. Let’s keep creating spaces where students feel safe to care, speak, and act. 🥰❤️

Week 2: Silence in Numbers - Young Voices Against Bullying

One tragedy sparked a movement. The case of Kitty Genovese showed us how silence can cost a life. In bullying, the same truth applies. When we stay quiet, harm grows. But silence isn’t the end of the story.

This week, we explore 4 ways to turn group silence into action:
👁️ Recognize That It’s Not Okay
🗣️ Break the Silence First
🤝 Reach Out
🌍 Create the Culture
Because every bystander has a choice, and every voice has power.

Join the campaign. Share your thoughts because your insight matters. 🫶
