Ink and Ideas: DMES and BCNHS join forces for Journalism training

Dominican Mirador Elementary School (DMES) and Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) collaborated for a school-based Journalism training, English and Filipino, November 16.

The training began with a short program that introduced the goals of the activity and emphasized the importance of campus journalism in developing critical thinking and communication skills, fostering teamwork and skill-building among young aspiring journalists.

“This event will help future journalists to become better in fields and it will help them in their journalistic skills,” Ma’am Sherly Mae Neri said, English, School Paper Adviser-BCNHS.

The sessions featured one-on-one mentoring, where BCNHS editorial staffs guided DMES learners in various journalism categories. Topics discussed included news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, editorial cartooning, column writing, sports writing, photojournalism, editorial cartooning and copyreading and headline writing. Each session focused on techniques, formats, and content tailored to the specific event, followed by hands-on workshops.

Participants created outputs that were reviewed and critiqued by BCNHS mentors and School Paper Advisers, ensuring constructive feedback to help hone their skills.

The event concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impression on DMES learners and inspiring them to excel in campus journalism.
