The PSTRG family extends its appreciation to one of its members for successfully attending the 44th Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) Conference and Annual Meeting, held on June 17–20, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

UPB SILBI congratulates Dr. Giovanni M. Malapit for winning THIRD PLACE at the Grassroots Innovation and Circular Economy (GICE) Expo 2025 held last November 21, 2025 at Mariano Marcos State University in Batac Ilocos Norte.

Dr. Giovanni M. Malapit showcased a powerful example of how science, culture, and community-driven innovation can meaningfully intersect. As one of SILBI’s incubatees from the second cohort and a participant in the UP System TTBDO’s University Innovation Fellowship Program Batch 8. Dr. Malapit’s work demonstrates the core mission of SILBI-TBI and TTBDO to transform research into accessible, community-focused solutions that advance inclusive development.

THREADitION & KalaPAW are under the Plasma Technology Series of Dr. Malapit that has grown from a research initiative into a technology with direct social impact. SILBI has assisted in refining its value proposition, preparing it for community deployment, and aligning the technology with real grassroots needs.

His Plasma Technology focuses on sustainable dye water treatment that protects our rivers and supports local textile makers. Plant-enhancing plasma-activated water that strengthens highland agriculture and Antibacterial textile coating that elevates local crafts and micro-enterprises.

UPB SILBI-TBI likewise produced last year’s GICE Expo 2024 champion through Ms. Elke Kayle Cadangen of TINGI Station, a member of the incubator’s first cohort demonstrating SILBI’s consistent track record in nurturing impactful innovations.

We recognize this achievement with pride and reaffirm our commitment to supporting innovators who continue to expand the possibilities of what the Cordillera region can accomplish.
