Last April 27โ€“28, four of our esteemed faculty members successfully facilitated workshops for PAPJA 2026, centered on the theme "Futurescaping Psychology: Our Role in Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals."

Sir Asher Escaรฑo Bayot presented his workshop, โ€œ๐™๐™ง๐™ค๐™ข ๐™‰๐™ช๐™ข๐™—๐™š๐™ง๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™‰๐™–๐™ง๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š๐™จ: ๐™๐™๐™š ๐˜ผ๐™ง๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™Ž๐™˜๐™ž๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š ๐™ค๐™› ๐˜ฟ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™– ๐™Ž๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฎ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œโ€ orienting students toward translating quantitative findings into clear, engaging, honest, and humanly understandable narratives (SDG 4: Quality Education).

Maโ€™am Loraine Cerezo conducted โ€œ๐™‰๐™ช๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง ๐˜พ๐™๐™ž๐™ก๐™™ ๐™๐™๐™ง๐™ค๐™ช๐™œ๐™ ๐™‹๐™ก๐™–๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™Ž๐™š๐™ก๐™›-๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ข๐™ฅ๐™–๐™จ๐™จ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ,โ€ inviting students to move beyond the concept of the inner child and into its living reality: a space of openness, imagination, and unguarded joy. The session offered a gentle reminder that the inner child is not merely a site of wounds, but also a keeper of hopes and a dreamer of futures still waiting to unfold (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education).

๐’†๐’ ๐’‡๐’๐’“ ๐‘ฏ๐’๐’๐’Š๐’”๐’•๐’Š๐’„ ๐‘พ๐’†๐’๐’-๐’ƒ๐’†๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ," engaging participants in a series of guided movement explorations, meditative dance, and improvisation designed to bridge the gap between physical vitality and emotional regulation (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being).

๐‘พ๐’†๐’๐’-๐’ƒ๐’†๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ,โ€ offering valuable insights on slowing down, being present, creating from what already exists, and sharing kindness through something handmade. Inspired by Positive Psychology, students experienced joy, focus, connection, meaning, and completion through the creation of these postcards (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production).

The success of these workshops stands as a testament to the dedication and expertise of our faculty, whose active participation underscores the department's commitment to advancing the field of psychology in the context of global sustainability. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sir Asher, Maโ€™am Loraine, Maโ€™am Lovan, and Maโ€™am Sigrid for their remarkable contributions to PAPJA 2026.

By bridging the gap between theory and the Sustainable Development Goals, our faculty members have represented our institution with distinction and inspired the next generation of practitioners to lead with purpose and innovation. Their involvement serves as a proud reminder of the vital role our faculty plays in shaping a more resilient and mindful future for all.

Performing before a massive audience of 7,300 students and chaperones at the SMX Convention Center, the department, through "Trans and Dance," achieved a historic milestone: reaching the finals for the first time and placing in the top nine of this highly competitive contest, leaving a legacy of passion and inspiration for those who follow.

Their performance went beyond choreography; it became a powerful narrative expressed through movement. Each step, gesture, and formation carried meaning, allowing the audience to feel emotions that words often fail to capture. The group transformed the stage into a shared emotional space, reminding everyone present that psychology is not only explored through theories and research, but also through lived and embodied experiences.

Reaching the finals is already a powerful achievement, but more than that, โ€˜Trans and Danceโ€™ embodied what it means to communicate emotions beyond words, bridging science and art, as well as advocacy, in a way that resonated deeply with everyone present.

Out of 95 participating schools, Saint Louis University Department of Psychology proudly secured 7th place in the Interschool Psychology Quiz Bee during the PAPJA 2026, held at the SMX Convention Center. This achievement reflects not only academic excellence but also the dedication, preparation, and passion of our psychology students.

Competing on a national stage is no small feat. It demands not just knowledge, but composure, teamwork, and resilience under pressure. Standing among the top 10 out of nearly a hundred schools is a testament to the strength of SLUโ€™s psychology program and the commitment of its students to continuously grow and excel.

More than rankings, this moment celebrates the pursuit of learning and the courage to represent oneโ€™s institution with pride.

Storytelling took on a powerful form as NAMNAMA secured 2nd place in the Psyclips competition during PAPJA 2026. Through film, the group was able to translate psychological concepts into a narrative that was both engaging and deeply meaningful.

Psyclips serves as a platform for students to creatively present ideas that reflect real-life experiences, social issues, and emotional realities. NAMNAMA embraced this opportunity by crafting a story that not only captured attention but also sparked reflection among its viewers. Their work highlighted the importance of hope, empathy, and the power of perspective in understanding human behavior.

Earning second place is a recognition of both creativity and purpose. More than the award itself, NAMNAMAโ€™s success represents the role of media and storytelling in psychology, showing that stories can educate, inspire, and create spaces for dialogue. Their achievement stands as a reminder that voices, when expressed authentically, have the power to make a lasting impact.

The Extension Cluster Paper Presentation, held on March 24, 2026, from 8:00 to 11:30 AM at Gevers Hall, was part of iCReaTe 2026 with the theme โ€œTransforming Society Through Research, Innovation and Extension.โ€ The event gathered faculty members and extension program coordinators to showcase community-engaged initiatives that reflect the Universityโ€™s commitment to meaningful service and sustainable development.

The Department of Psychology participated through the presentation of its extension project "Caring for the Caregivers: Mental Health Care Assist Program (MHCAP): A Self-Help Series" delivered by the department's Extension Program Coordinator, Ma'am Loraine C. Cerezo. The program highlights efforts to support caregivers through mental health awareness, self-care, and emotional resilience.

The initiative underscores the departmentโ€™s commitment to extending psychological services beyond the classroom and into communities, particularly by empowering those who provide care for others.

โ€œTrans & Danceโ€ makes way for rhythm and dynamics at the stage. Every step, every gesture, and every rhythm speaks of emotions that words sometimes fail to capture.

This April 27 at the SMX Convention Center, we proudly stand behind our PAPJA 2026 Convention contestants as they step into a space that celebrates both excellence and purpose.
More than representatives, they carry with them stories, perspectives, and a deep understanding of what it means to be students of psychology in SLU. In every performance, every idea, and every answer they share, there is intention. A desire to communicate, to connect, and to make meaning out of what they have learned and lived.

These platforms are not just stages for talent or knowledge, but avenues to express the very heart of psychology. They reflect creativity grounded in empathy, intelligence guided by curiosity, and passion shaped by a commitment to understand people and the world around them. What they bring is not just skill, but substance.

As they take part in this convention, they remind us that psychology is not limited to theories and discussions. It is found in expression, in movement, in critical thinking, and in the courage to share oneโ€™s voice. It is seen in the way they represent something bigger than themselves.

We are proud, not just of what they can do, but of what they stand for.
