Empowering Community Ambassadors: One for Peace and Tourism Initiative Inspires Tuba, Benguet
The Municipality of Tuba, Benguet became the venue for an inspiring gathering of community leaders, local tour guides, and residents as they participated in the One for Peace and Tourism (OPT) Initiative—a collaborative program dedicated to promoting peace, strengthening community leadership, and advancing responsible and sustainable tourism.
The event brought together passionate individuals committed to making a difference in their communities. It was an enriching and fulfilling experience as knowledge, skills, and best practices were shared with participants, empowering them to become active partners in shaping Tuba into a safer, more welcoming, and tourism-ready destination.
The Up North Business Club (UNBC) extends its deepest gratitude to the Rotary Club of Creative City Baguio (RCCCB), under the leadership of President Sir Samson Amistad, together with Ms. Alah Sungduan, for spearheading this meaningful initiative. Their vision and commitment to community development paved the way for a successful collaboration among government, private organizations, educational institutions, and community stakeholders.
One of the highlights of the program was the session delivered by Mr. Jonathan "Nathan" A. Barroga, President of the Up North Business Club, who served as a keynote speaker. His presentation, "Community Ambassadors in Action: Self-Leadership, Personal Development, and Tour Guiding Skills Workshop," emphasized the importance of self-leadership, personal growth, professionalism, and effective communication in creating memorable visitor experiences.
Mr. Barroga reminded participants that every resident has the potential to become a community ambassador. Beyond showcasing tourist attractions, community ambassadors represent Tuba's values, culture, and hospitality. Through strong character, a positive mindset, and a genuine commitment to service, they can contribute significantly to the municipality's tourism development while fostering peace, pride, and unity within their communities.
The One for Peace and Tourism (OPT) Initiative reflects a shared vision of cultivating responsible tourism while reinforcing peace and order at the grassroots level. By equipping barangay officials, local guides, and residents with practical knowledge and leadership skills, the program empowers them to become advocates of sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and exceptional Filipino hospitality.
Adding warmth to the event was the outstanding culinary service provided by the Philippine Institute of Culinary Arts, Inc. Under the leadership of School Director Khael Balboa, together with Josh Wayagwag, Chef Tonnette, and Chef Vanessa, PICA students prepared and served delicious meals that showcased not only their culinary excellence but also their dedication to service and hospitality.
The success of the initiative was made possible through the generosity and unwavering support of the Up North Business Club Member Sponsors, namely:
* Newtown Plaza Hotel
* ACHIEVE Institute
* Mountain Lodge and Restaurant
* Be Better Wellness Center
* Safari Baguio RestoBar
* Manulife by Joey Mejia
* KR Fervor by Karen Joy Malecdan Degay-Bomogao
* Skyline Polytechnic Institute
* The Podium Boutique Hotel
* Edrei Transient House
Their invaluable contributions ensured that every participant was well cared for throughout the event, reflecting the true spirit of volunteerism and community partnership.
The One for Peace and Tourism Initiative stands as a testament to what can be achieved when civic organizations, educational institutions, businesses, and local communities unite with a common purpose. More than a seminar, it became a platform for inspiring future leaders, strengthening community relationships, and fostering a culture of peace, service, and responsible tourism.
As the program concluded, participants left not only with new knowledge and skills but also with a renewed sense of purpose—to serve as ambassadors of Tuba, promoting its rich culture, natural beauty, and warm hospitality while contributing to a peaceful and sustainable future for the municipality.
Indeed, through collaboration, leadership, and shared commitment, communities become stronger, tourism becomes more meaningful, and lasting positive change becomes possible.
