On September 21, 1972, martial law was declared in the Philippines, a pivotal moment that altered the nation's trajectory. Under President Ferdinand Marcos, civil liberties were suspended, and dissent was met with repression. Families were torn apart, and many activists were imprisoned or disappeared. We must this dark chapter in history.
In the years that followed, the Filipino people showed remarkable resilience. A generation emerged, determined to fight for democracy and human rights. Underground movements flourished, with students, workers, and everyday citizens uniting against oppression, ensuring that we say to such tyranny.
As time passed, the scars of martial law remained, but so did the stories of courage. Survivors shared their experiences, ensuring that the lessons learned would not be forgotten. They organized commemorative events where younger generations could learn about the past, fostering a culture of memory.
On this 52nd anniversary, the nation reflects on that history, recognizing the importance of vigilance in protecting democracy. The stories of those who stood against tyranny continue to inspire hope and unity, reminding everyone that the fight for justice is ongoing.
