Instant gratification culture is a way of thinking and living in which people expect rewards, pleasure or results immediately with little willingness to wait, work thru difficulties or delay satisfaction for greater long-term benefits.
Today, this culture greatly affects our children and is reinforced by smartphones, social media, on-demand entertainment, online shopping, food delivery apps and instant communication.
Characteristic behavior includes:
1. Expecting fast results
2. Becoming impatient when progress is slow
3. Preferring short-term pleasure over long-term goals
4. Frequently seeking novelty, entertainment or stimulation
5. Difficulty delaying rewards or resisting temptations
6. Reduced persistence when facing challenges
We often see some if not all of the above in our children growing up.
We will discuss various ways to counteract the characteristic behaviors of the 'Instant Gratification Culture'.
