SHS-ICT students attend Python fundamentals seminar led by CS mentors
SHS-ICT students participated in a Python Programming Fundamentals seminar held on April 21, 2026, at Room 727 to learn basic programming logic and concepts under the guidance of BS Computer Science student mentors.
The seminar aimed to equip learners with foundational knowledge in coding, focusing on essential concepts necessary for beginners in programming. Organized specifically for SHS-ICT students, the session provided an introductory yet structured approach to understanding how programming works in real-world applications.
BS Computer Science students facilitated the seminar as mentors, guiding participants through discussions and examples to ensure comprehension of each topic. Their role allowed for peer-assisted learning, making the session more interactive and accessible for attendees.
Among the topics discussed were fundamental data types, including string, integer, float, and boolean, which serve as the building blocks of programming. The mentors also introduced basic arithmetic operators such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, floor division, modulo, and exponentiation.
Further lessons covered basic comparison and logical operators, helping students understand how programs make decisions. The discussion then progressed to conditionals and if statements, demonstrating how different outcomes are produced based on given conditions.
To conclude the session, participants were introduced to loops, specifically for and while loops, which are used to repeat processes efficiently in programming tasks.
The seminar forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen studentsโ technical skills and prepare them for more advanced programming subjects in the future.
