At a time when many assume that English and language-related programs will be among the hardest hit by artificial intelligence, recent LinkedIn data shared by Forbes suggests a more hopeful and important trend: English remains the most versatile college major.
The report shows that 69% of English graduates from 2022 to 2024 landed jobs farther afield from their majors, placing English at the top of the list for career versatility. This does not mean English graduates are leaving their discipline behind. Rather, it shows that the competencies developed in English studies — critical thinking, communication, interpretation, writing, research, cultural literacy and adaptability — travel well across industries.
In the age of AI, the value of English majors should not be measured only by whether machines can generate text. AI can produce words, but it still depends on human judgment to ask the right questions, evaluate meaning, detect bias, understand context, shape ethical communication and connect ideas with people. These are precisely the strengths that English Language Studies continues to cultivate.
The trend also challenges the narrow view that college majors should lead to only one fixed career path. English graduates are proving that a strong foundation in language and meaning can lead to work in education, media, research, law, public service, business, content strategy, communications, human resources, technology and many other fields.
For AB English Language Studies students, this is an encouraging reminder: the future does not belong only to those who can use AI tools, but also to those who can think critically with them, communicate responsibly through them and bring human insight into spaces increasingly shaped by technology.
English majors are not being displaced by AI. They are being called to help humanize it.

Congratulations to Mary Joie Montaño Maboloc and Margie Delmo Masselones, proud alumnae of the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (ABELS) through ETEEAP, who were formally recognized by their Alma Mater during the 79th Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises of La Consolacion College Bacolod on May 29, 2026 for successfully passing the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT).
Together with fellow board passers from various disciplines, Mary Joie and Margie received recognition before the graduating class, faculty, administrators, families, and guests—an inspiring testament to the transformative power of lifelong learning.
Their journey is particularly meaningful. After completing their ABELS degree through the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), they pursued the Teacher Certificate Program (TCP), fulfilled the professional education requirements, and went on to become licensed professional teachers. Their achievement demonstrates that ETEEAP is not the end of an educational journey but often the beginning of new academic and professional pursuits.
As they stood before the LCC community as newly licensed educators, Mary Joie and Margie embodied the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and continuous growth that defines the LCCian tradition.
Your ABELS and ETEEAP family celebrates this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Teachers Mary Joie and Margie! May your success inspire more working professionals to believe that it is never too late to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams. 🎓✨
