The Patria National High School (PNHS) conducted an orientation program on the DepEd Child Protection Policy on January 27, 2026, at the school quadrangle. The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and understanding of child protection measures among students, teachers, and school personnel.
The program was headed by Principal I Edgar S. Estoya, with the orientation proper delivered by Guidance Counselor Ritche B. De la Torre. The discussion focused on DepEd Order No. 40, s. 2012, also known as the DepEd Child Protection Policy, which outlines the guidelines and procedures in protecting children in schools from abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination, and bullying.
A key highlight of the orientation was the presentation of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10627, otherwise known as the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013. The law mandates all elementary and secondary schools to adopt policies that address bullying and ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
The orientation also underscored the Stateโs commitment under the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, particularly Article XV, Section 3(2), which affirms the right of children to proper care, nutrition, and special protection from all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation, and other conditions prejudicial to their development.
Moreover, the program highlighted the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which seeks to protect children from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury, abuse, neglect, maltreatment, and exploitation, including sexual abuse. The CRC also recognizes every childโs right to education and obliges governments to promote regular school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and ensure that school discipline respects the childโs human dignity.
During the session, school officials emphasized the Department of Educationโs strict zero-tolerance policy against any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, and bullying. The Department reiterated that all prior orders inconsistent with DepEd Order No. 40, s. 2012 are considered repealed or modified accordingly, and that the policy remains in full effect upon issuance.
Through this initiative, PNHS reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environment where the rights and welfare of every learner are protected and upheld.

The aspiring campus journalists from Patria National High School (PNHS) returned from the recently concluded Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) in Bugasong, Antique feeling the weight of not bringing home a win, yet still inspired and determined to grow from the experience and come back stronger in future competitions.
Despite not securing top awards in this yearโs competition, the PNHS delegation emphasized that the experience itself was a meaningful victory. Competing against some of the divisionโs most skilled young writers and broadcasters, the students gained valuable lessons that extended far beyond the podium.
โWe may not have won this time and our fruit is not fully ripe, but one thing remains in our minds, there is always a time for everything,โ one participant shared, reflecting the teamโs optimism and perseverance.
The Division Schools Press Conference, an annual event that gathers talented student-journalists from various schools, aims to promote responsible journalism, sharpen communication skills, and strengthen ethical reporting among the youth. Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in writing, broadcasting, and collaborative activities that tested not only their technical skills but also their critical thinking and creativity.
The students expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent PNHS and vowed to apply the lessons they learned in future competitions. With renewed determination and a broader perspective, they returned home inspired, ready to write, speak, and serve as responsible voices of truth in their community.
Looking ahead, campus journalism adviser Loren A. Ilao shared that preparations are already underway for future competitions. According to her, the school plans to conduct intensive training workshops for aspiring writers and broadcasters.
โWeโll be focusing on strengthening research skills and storytelling techniques to help our students better capture the pulse of our community,โ Ilao stated.
In the end, the lessons learned from the DSPC proved more lasting than any trophy. As famously said by Henry Ford, โThe only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.โ
For PNHS, the journey continues stronger, wiser, and ever ready to embrace the next chapter in campus journalism with passion, resilience, and a commitment to truth.
