SEMAS – MENTAL ARITHMETIC

SEMAS is a program designed to develop the right side of the brain using the soroban/abacus as a tool. Our aim is to accomplish whole brain development; it’s much more than a Mathematics course! The SEMAS classroom includes learners as young as five (5) years old. The method is also sensitive to the fact that very young learners respond best to short periods of intensive activity.

SEMAS develops fast mental calculations and is also associated with creativity, memory and imagination. SEMAS students are able to draw upon the right-brain, which increases speed and accuracy. To do this, students learn how to visualize the soroban/abacus in their memory, which is why calculations are able to be made more quickly. In other words, SEMAS enables the children to ”see” Math. And, despite the use of soroban/ abacus, it is most definitely not senseless repetition.

SEMAS improves a wide range of skills that are needed in many areas. These include comprehension, concentration, listening, creativity and problem solving. Ultimately, SEMAS fosters a love of Mathematics in children, boosts self-confidence and increase IQ by up to25 points!

A BRAIN EXERCISE LIKE NO OTHER, by combining Mental Calculation (Anzan) and Speed Listening training, we have created a brain exercise like no other. The intensive comprehension and calculation required to complete the task, causes most of the actual information processing to be off-loaded to the right brain for faster processing. With regular training, students will gain unrestricted access to the right hemisphere of their brains. This similar to when we learn how to ride a bike, we are instinctively were able to balance ourselves on it without having to think about it every time.
